Gemini Calendar - my vision of calendar software

Hello, I have my google calendar syncing with my gemini calendar. On my gemini calender, the times are showing up as an hour before I had inputted in my google calendar. I have tried to see if there was a problem with EST, CST, MST, etc.. but there isn't.

Is anyone else experiencing a problem with the times on their Gemini Calendar being an hour ahead of what they have on Google Calendar?

I am running android 2.2 on a LG Optimus U (US Cellular)

BRILLIANT! Can you do this? It's exactly what I'm looking for? PLEASE SAY YES!:)
Can I make a feature suggestion? A 'Flag' you can set for any day on the monthly calendar in the main view. This could be maybe set within the calendar entry, set the 'flag' and then in the main view there could be some sort of highlight. This way you could specify in Gemini a visual cue to make a certain upcoming day stand out. Like right now there is the blue highlight for the current day, maybe you could make gold for a flagged day, something like that.

Alternately, maybe it could be a really 'dumb' feature and you could simply set the flag against the day on the calendar, not based on any specific event. You could just make a menu item for 'set flag' and it would set or unset on whatever the current day is. Then if you have a really important upcoming event you can get a strong visual cue right in the main view and not miss it.

It is nice to have the calendar viewable, one of the things I like about Gemini, with all the days of the month, but there is no way to really show any detail in a nice way on these sorts of calendars IMO. I never like to have text overlayed on these, it is always just too tiny. I think this sort of compromise would be nice and I haven't seen that on any other calendar app.

Is the "flag" option available yet?

I am using a Samsung Captivate with Android 2.1 and have quickly become a user and fan of your application!

A significant majority of my meetings utilize AT&T Teleconferencing services and the ability to add a Phone Number as a link to the Location field of an event is exactly what I have been looking for. It seems to work smoothly for a standard 10 digit number. However, I observed that a couple of special characters are not supported.

These conf calls are accessed by dialing a toll free number, wait for a system prompt and dial a passcode which is unique to the host of that particular call. I have setup entries in my contact list using the w or ; symbol (wait) and the p or , symbol (pause) to add a delay in between the main number and passcode.

This is stored as 888-xxx-xxxx;xxxxxxx# in some of my contacts and they work as expected.

When adding this number in the location field in GeminiCalendar, the numeric digits are underlined and act as a hot link, but the ; is not. I would like to be able to include ; or , (and # or *) in phone numbers that are stored in the location field and passed to the phone application when selected.

Here is some more about how special characters are used in phone numbers on Android.
How To Add Hard (Wait) And Soft (2-3 Sec) Pauses To Your Android Contacts | Android News, Reviews, Applications, Games, Phones, Devices, Tips, Mods, Videos, Podcasts - Android Police

To go a step further, my wish would be to have the ability to add a link to an existing contact in my phone book in the Location field rather than typing the number in manually for each and every call. I can currently create a Direct Dial shortcut on my Home screen that points to a specific number stored in my Contact list and allows a single click to send the number to the phone application and dial the call. I would like to be able to add the same type of shortcut in the Location field of an event.

I envision this working something like this:
When entering/editing the location for an event, have a button to open a dialog where I can select from a specific number for one of the Contacts stored on my phone which would then be stored in the Location field. My preference would be to display the name of the contact in the location field but have it act as a Phone Number link. If that would be too difficult, simply storing and displaying the full number as a link would be ok too.

Thanks again for a great product!

I checked after this post but do not see a followup. Is it possible to have special characters in the phone link? This is useful in hands-free environments.

Very impressed with the app overall.

Love the app. But there is 2 things I would love to see.
Most important an search functions. At the moment I also have a different calendar app just to be able to search.
Second I would love an widget that look like the app it self.
Is there any chance to see these things?

By far the best looks for an calander on android ;)
Props for that ;)

one userfriendly suggestion, maby a swipe option horizontal over the calander to switch month.

Regards

I will think about this.

I would agree with this. I have switched to the new skin because of the extra space, but I prefer the look of the original skin, if it didn't have the Gemini bar.
I will add this to preferences.

Search function - yes, it will be implemented. More widgets are planned, but not in the nearest releases.

You can swipe over the month name, see Tips & Tricks section on my site. I have also been asked for adding swipe over the events list, which I will probably implement soon.

I uploaded a new version (01.00.05), changelog is here

I looked at your calendar a while back, and abandoned because of no search. I see it is still not implemented.

Do you see that in the near term, or will it be a while?

It can be a glitch related to the previously loaded activity. I think I know what is the reason, I will try to fix it.
!

I really like Gemini calendar, but I'm having the above mentioned problem with the widget.
I use Gemini 1.0.5. registered, on HTC Desire with Froyo.

I'd like to use the 1x4a widget (looks good), but I would like it to give me access to the month-view, but it brings me only to the day-view (unlike the other 2 widgets). This shouldn't be a problem if I could go from the dayview to the month-view, but that seems impossible.
(In the month-view, I don't need access to a day-view, as each day can be shown above the month... just the reason why I choose Gemini!)

At first I though those different views were deliberately tied to different widgets, but since it was mentioned as a possible glitch in the old post that I found...

Nevertheless... I really like Gemini!

The 4x1a widget allows access to both day and month views: tapping the square with the date goes to the month view, tapping the list of 3 events goes to the day view for today.

I've said this before, I reckon those make better sense the other way round, but there we are.

I just downloaded the Gemini Calendar and from what I can tell it is better than calendar pad and I like the black colors, red & green. If you can add more color options that would be great. I haven't had much time to sit and play with it but as far as I can tell and from what I've used in it...It's great and I like it. Also, can you add alarms where we can assign mp3's as alarms tone? Thanks for the product and I will continue to use it.

New release: 1.0.6

  • New recurrence parameter, letting you select how many times event is supposed to repeat itself, this is alternative way for selecting until date for the recurring event,
  • Recurrence period is now selectable from the set 0...99,
  • Copying event function copies this event also to the system clipboard, so you can paste your event to the text editor, SMS creator etc.,
  • Three new languages: Slovak, Norwegian and Italian.

OK. My understanding is that Gemini uses the same calendar database as the standard Android calendar? I'm using an HTC Desire HD (stock ROM) running 2.2.1 (but it was the same with 2.2). I use MyPhoneExplorer to synchronise between my phone and Microsoft Outlook 2000 (running XP Pro with SP3 on my PC) and everytime I sync the calendar I see 4 dates that ask to be sync'ed - even though I haven't edited them. I always ask for the Outlook copy to be downloaded (though I have tested by uploading the phone copy and get the same results), which is correct, but Gemini does not see any of these 4 events.

The thing is, they are correct in the stock Android calendar on the phone but they are incorrect if I look in the MyPhoneExplorer copy (on my PC) - which is a copy of what is on the phone. I have no other calendar on the phone. So: Outlook correct. Stock calendar correct. Gemini doesn't see them. MyPhoneExplorer client on PC is incorrect - but shows time as 00:00 with zero duration and no "All day event" ticked. However, on this last one I'm a bit confused as MPE is used to sync the calendars and the stock calendar shows the correct information ....

I'm at a bit of a loss now and would appreciate any ideas you may have.

(Oh, running the latest copy of Gemini as mentioned in the post above).

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Love the calendar, great job!!!! I see you responded to the FLOATING EVENTS comment, but did not give us an answer as to whether you are going to implement it or not. Could you please tell us if a future update will include FLOATING EVENTS? Thanks!

I have a feature request, one thing that I use VERY often is floating tasks. Sometimes there is a date I should do something, but if I don't check it off as "done", I want it to show up again the next day, as a reminder in case I forgot to do it. Right now I have to use a separate "to do" type app for that...(pain in the neck)...it would be FANTASTIC if Gemini would have that ability - I could get rid of the extra app!

I second the motion!!!!!!!

Great job with the calendar, seriously! Greatly appreciated. Quick question / suggestion / urgent feature:
Would you, could you, pretty please, include a Floating Events/tasks option? Within the recurring scroller option (or anywhere else), you could include an option that says

Any chance to integrate inviting attendees like the Blackberry does? I think it uses the attendees emails somehow. This way the event can automatically sync with the attendees calendar.

Great calendar. I came from Blackberry, and went to the Samsung Fascinate. So this app, plus calendar companion (for searching) makes this phone versatile for business now.

Any news on the Floating Events option? It's been mentioned a bunch in this forum, and i know of a few people who refuse to come to Android (from Palm Datebook) because of the lack of this feature. Calengoo already offers this option, and it is becoming popular fast! Could you please consider adding this option? Summary of how it works in Pimlical Datbk and Calengoo:

Within Agenda (or any other view) you click menu, then "Add new event", then "Float" as an option where you input the category of the event. This turns it, in reality, into a task, but you can see it within your calendar, AND it can be assigned a date. When you don't mark it as "done" on that particular day, then it automatically rolls over to the next (current) day. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL INTEGRATION OF THE TO-DO LIST WITH THE CALENDAR.

Could you do this? Just download Calengoo and check it out (in their case this can be done from the Tasks menu, but the author says it will be an independet option within any view really soon). Then tasks get synced with Google Tasks and Outlook - How cool is that?!

Hope this helps in making your already-great app even greater (and perfect for some of us)!

Answering some questions:
Inviting attendees will be available in Gemini in one of the next releases.
Floating events are planned, but I cannot say when this feature will be implemented.

O.k., almost month has passed, I have been busy with my private life, but now I am back on track again, so you can expect more updates soon.

New version (1.0.10) is ready to download in the Android Market. As always, I will appreciate any feedback from users.

Just updated to 1.10. Thanks!

A comment. I noticed that you've recently added an "All previous events" option to the deletion of a recurrent event. There have been comments before (including from me) about being able to delete single instances from a recurring event for a non-Google calendar.

I like to not have lots of past events in my diary. I don't want to store a history. The main reason for me wanting to delete single events in a recurrence is so that I can delete the event which has just taken place. I know there are other reasons for deleting a single event in the middle of a series, but I'm not concerned about that here.

Anyway, I am now able to workaround this feature which I miss by going to the *next* occurrence of the repeating event and doing delete "all previous events". However, it would be nice if you could add a delete "this and all previous events" (like you have for future events, in fact).

And, as always, thanks for continuing to update this nice app!

Installed the free Gemini v.1.0.10 today to my HTC Incredible S (running Gingerbread) after reading this thread.
A very nice app, especially when compared to the stock calendar. I'm also impressed by Powell's unique willingness to cooperate with users..cudos !

However, I'm getting more and confused about how Gemini works in relation to the stock calendar and to my online Google calendar. If I set notifications in the stock calendar to Off, Gemini doesn't sound any of the alarms I set for an event. If I turn stock notifications to On, the Gemini alarms sound... but with the alarmsound set for the stock calendar. I also miss a nag function for this calendar to be perfect, btw. Seems silly to have to install yet another app to get this...*sigh*

In my Google online calendar I subscribe to Norwegian Holidays, but I can't get these to show up in either the stock calendar or Gemini. What am I doing wrong...?

Oh...and the graphics are better in v.1.0.10 :-)

Here is the list of changes in 1.0.10:

  • New 3x1 widget (for registered version only),
  • Some widgets components were not aligned properly - fixed,
  • "all day" string on widget was too long for some languages - fixed,
  • several other fixes,

List of changes can be also found on my website: The News

@Rob.177870 - I know what you mean, I will try to change this feature to "this and all previous events", however, there can be some internal problems, so I do not promise anything.

@IncredibleCate - Gemini should notify independently about the passing events, I am not sure what is the problem in your device. Write to me at bugs (at) mobilepaprika.com, do not forget to mention, what device you own.
Have you searched your Holiday calendar under Menu key in the Gemini Calendar list ?

I wonder whether Google's recent color-coding of calendar events will become available via an Android API. And hopefully appear in Gemini ...
