Root General Evo Opinion!!!

Foxworth

Newbie
Hey guys,

I just rooted my evo last week, that I traded with my in-law.
It just settled and is running great now, but my wifi & bluetooth are not working.

So here is the question, I have the choice to move up to the 3d without hurting my upgrade status.

Would you do it? I love my evo and feel like I just put in all this time to get it rooted. LOL

Thanks for all the help so far in getting my phone up to snuff & I appreciate any opinions you guys have on this matter.

I have a friend that works there.
I actually have a choice of any phone they sell, but I really love my EVO.
Looked over at the 3D forum on rooting & it looks like a nightmare for me.

I really struggled with the rooting of the EVO, Rooting for Dummies would have my face on the front of the book. LOL

Damn I need a friend in Sprint lol. I'm sure if you get it you would be able to root it. As long as you read the instructions front to back you should be fine. I would love to upgrade to the 3d just for the processor.

i have a loose port on my evo and so i'm debating on what to do as well. i really like the 3vo, but i might wait until after the holiday season to make my decision. i want to see what phones are coming out and also to see how much dev support they will be getting. i know the 3vo has a good community behind it so we will see.

I really want to upgrade my phone, but I only got it in March so I have a long time for an upgrade to come. Definitely wished I would have done some more research before buying this phone even though I'm happy with it somewhat right now.

@OCNBRZE, it seems, there are more options for the EVO IE: Kernals, ROMS etc... I am I wrong? I checked out the 3D forum & I didn't see the different options.

Are you hanging in with the EVO? my guy told me that it is looking like late spring or summer before we see anything new regarding the EVO.

for now yes, just waiting really until i know what the phones are coming out this holiday season and to see if there will be any dev support for that phone.

also if you go here:EVO 3D CDMA Android Development - xda-developers. you will see plenty of roms to choose from for the 3vo.

They may not be as organized as it is in here. :D The support in this forum is top notch in my book. :D I've looked for stuff in forums for other phones here and it's not the same for organization and information. Kind of all over the place. So Thanks to all those that help out!!

The 3vo is nice but i just bought my EVO in July and I'm loving it. Especially with the Rom options it's like a new phone every week. I'm sure those that got a release day EVO are feeling like it's long in the tooth though.

There may be more Rom choices for the 3VO posted over at XDA.

Thanks Nater Tots, maybe that is it, I am new & spoiled how things are black & white over here.

I think you guys have made up my mind, I think I will stay here.

I do have a question, Blanco mentioned something about processors, does that make a big difference?

Thanks again fellas.

The 3vo has a dual core 1ghz processor, the EVO has a single core 1ghz processor.
I like the specs for the 3vo, but I don't like the camera and the extra crap associated with it. I almost upgraded, now I'm glad I didn't. The EVO has a lot of life left, don't worry. I'm waiting for the next gen EVO with a dual core processor, or even quad core! :D

I'm not sure where you are with your flashing/wiping process or what rom you chose. but you should be able to get your wifi and bluetooth working with no issues.

when you flash a rom try to restore no system data and only do user data for a few necessary apps you need. mybackup and titanium will be set to default to restore data so you need to uncheck that before you restore apps.

not sure about wifi, but bluetooth seems to break very easy by restoring data.

I would recommend a full wipe and reflash of a new rom. and keep the data restore to a minimum.

ps. you can run the 3vo software on your evo ;)

Drew, the wifi & bluetooth has been that way since day one on stock.

I wasn't able to root my evo, so I swapped with my mother in-law.

She has had it for over a year and never new better to look at the wifi & bluetooth. Under wifi in the settings it just says ERROR.

My Sprint guy told me to try rooting and see if that fixed it, which it did not.
But I like it here and I think I will stay, I have learned more about phones on this board in the last week, than I have for the last years looking for help.

I also wanted to mention, I am totally lost with the SETCPU app and the Super Charger program.

You guys ROCK!!!

Setcpu is simple. Just set the min n max to what you want them. Do not enable set on boot. And all i use is one profile for screen off and set min/max to 245/450.
