Root Get Koush A Spectrum

Will he do a ICS AOSP ROM for it?

All I know is he requires someone to give him a spectrum in order for him to give us official support on cwm and ROM manager then we can have eclipse and broken out monitored easily from the ROM listings within the app... I for one have been a donator to ROM manager premium and would like some official work... And given that he works with Cyanogen it may bring us some notice from them... Again this is all speculation but hopefully it would be in our favor... :)

CM9 is being worked on by D2A as we speak. I could personally care less about ROM manager as I have seen so many ppl start threads(obv not on this phone) off saying "I was using ROM manager and now I'm bootlooped etc" or "I tried to flash into recovery using ROM Manager" etc. But to get CWM official would maybe be worth it for me to donate something. I know we have another dev working on CWM with Neph so keep that in mind.

You could see if Arcee from the CM team is willing to work on a port for us. He ported CWM and CM9 to the NitroHD (GSM Spectrum), which is what I believe Neph is using for the Spectrum. I was also under the assumption he was the general maintainer for LG devices for CM.

My 2 cents, it'd be nice to get nitro hd team on this for development as devices are closer to each other.

On another note the spectrum still rocks in specs and screen size in Verizon line up, so we're good to keep trying and donating.

Well, here is the kicker at this point. PlayfulGod has a functional CWM recovery running from source, but can not get a script running properly to kill the boot loop flag (which prevents Koush from making it official). It's the same thing I had tried to work on and gave up and just went with the .zip fix. If anyone wants to try and write the script to fix it, I'd be more then happy to provide both files that you need to look at. As it is, I'm working massive OT right now and won't have much time to deal with the Spectrum until early July.

rom manager is nice.. or atleast it was with my droid eris.. with my fascinate i never used it... twrp and goomanager imho is alot nicer interface and usability...

Wrong wrong wrong!!! koush yes will port CWM if you arrange with him to send him a device, but its not required to do so for it to get made official. Thats what ppl like me, mt, neph etc are for.

Neph did a good job at hacking up the Nirto CWM n get it working, hell its even touch. lol

But I have been working on CWM for the Spectrum and have it all working except for fixing the button combo issue. Once that gets fixed its ready to submit to koush to do his thing with it.

I didn't realize Koush was allowing others to upload CWM like JRummy does with RTB. I thought he had 'official' versions, which he made available through RM.

If you send him the full source or link to your github he will take a look, confirm it, and then build it as official CWM. At least, that is my understanding of the whole deal. It just happened to be easier, long ago, for someone to send him a device to be worked on. That was back in early CM7 era, hence why most guides are very outdated.

I plan on selling my LG Spectrum as soon as I get my new SGS3. I'm not willing to "donate" it, but I would sell it to the cause for less than I could get for it elsewhere.

PM me if this sounds like something that would help.

As far as I'm concerned we don't need koush to have a spectrum. We already have a working CWM. Sure it has a couple minor issues but it's works well enough for me. If I were going to donate money for someone to get a phone it would be to someone who is going to make us another rom.

Please count me in on contributing towards this phone if it's chosen to send one for recovery CWM,maybe then it can go to a ROM maker :-)

Yea, but being able to flash it from RM would be nice. As we've seen, it's a point of error for some newer users.

I'm fine with the way things are now. We just need more roms, not ease of use. As far as I concerned, the spec is very easy to root and flash cwm and roms on; what perks would we really get in the end? Only things I know of is having the specs recovery in rom manager and not having to use the bootloopfix zip. To me this is not a big deal.

i just sent a message to the miui.us dev for the samsung fascinate weblexa.. maybe he would be willing to try to give us some miui love...

I would definitely be willing to bring MIUI to the Spectrum if someone would be kind enough to donate the device. MIUI should be fairly easy to get ported since it sounds like a CM9 ROM is in the works. I've done some research, and I'm surprised in the lack of ROMs that are available for the Spectrum, so I'd also do what I can to port other ROMs to the Spectrum in my spare time as well.

Let me know if you guys are interested in donating a device, I'll get to work as soon as I have one in my hands. :)

I did a bin kang of Miui from the NitroHD for the Spectrum, but it wouldn't boot. I've done kangs before, so it should have worked, but didn't... Either there's more configuration needed to kang from that device, or something else entirely.

LG changed shit up IE 'iproj' (device and config names) references on nitro hd dont match up to the spectrums 'iprj' or 'vzw_iprj'

Also I don't think you guys will be entirely happy if you give koush a spec. Nothing against him....he just has alot on his plate device wise, so no guarantee that he will develop anything for the spec besides CWM, plus to get official support you dont need to give him a device it was really only applicable in cm6 -early cm7 days..

Yea, I found that out the hard way with my CM7 attempts. But I changed all those references in the MKs, which is probably why it booted, but didn't get past the gray screen. I don't recall if I updated that config in my kang, but that would explain why it never worked. I learned from my moto work that it's best to take what it says in the stock build.prop and make the changes to the target rom's build prop. Of course... if the build is made to look for those configs on the other phone, I don't know that I'd be able to get it to work. I could give it another go, I guess. I've still got the device dump.

Ok this is awesome news to me. I would be willing to donate some money to you to buy a spec. 200 should get you a spec off ebay no problem. If others would join me in raising some funds then I'm definitely willing to throw in a bit. If I was able to donate a spec I would but it's just not possible. We need to come up with a way to make this happen.
