I dont think there is a battery problem, there is a public perception problem. These newer phones are more like a laptop than a phone and the more we do on them the more battery we use. My blackberries had good battery life until you added twitter, new readers, and etc... The standard incredible battery is a bit small and it should have came with a 1500ma, but its still usable and will get your through a day with normal use. If you use it like a phone it will make it through a day no problem (calls and txts).

I had someone at work point out to me (they have a evo) that if you think of it more like a laptop and plug it in when you can you will have no problems.

If you need more battery then upgrade, but lets stop bashing VZ or HTC for what is more of a user issue than a device problem. Every smart phone I have ever had could benefit from more battery, so this is no different, but it sure does a whole lot more....

What is wrong with you and where have you been?

Most people complaining CANNOT get through " a day no problem (calls and texts)." That's the issue.

I can't get more than 5 hours and that's with my phone just being on (and stock battery).

if you cant last 5 hours, you have an app killing your phone. period.

Look at your up and awake times. do they match. if so, start uninstalling until they dont. your results are not typical.

I agree. Bearly, check out up and awake times, then use systempanel to see if any of the active apps are showing large amount of cpu time. Program called Batteryleft will list every thing on your phone that is keeping your phone 'partial awake' anything in that list is a potential problem.

My typical ratio of Awake:Up times have been 0.4 to 0.6

I've used System Panel but haven't seen anything unusual. Maybe I need to buy the full version.

My first dINC sucked a whole lot on battery. Doing nothing on it gave me a standby time of 3 hours or so and then the 10% warning kicked in and made me think oh crap turns out I got a lemon. As my new incredible gets 3 hours doing everything I can do (well not quite 3 but still better then the old phone doing nothing). I have a car charger so I can make it thru a day easily assuming im not in the same for the whole of the day and do have a retractable USB cord for emergencies.

Agreed. I get 18 hours with moderate use (browsing, Pandora at the gym/in the car, texts, calls, GMail setup to push, etc). I don't have all day to mess with my phone, but I don't hold back on it when I do have the chance. Stock "crappy" 1300mAh battery.

I called Verizon today to see if they could help me out with battery life on this phone. I don't get bad battery life away at school, but at home I have almost 0 3G coverage for some reason which means I get about 5 hours of battery life if I'm lucky. Every other Verizon phone in the house has full bars on 3G. I know I could switch to wifi, but I'm paying $29.99 a month extra for data which I want to use.

Anyway, I called into tech support. She instantly said to use a task killer to manage apps. I told her I have tried this to no avail and also a factory reset. She called HTC, and they told her that the phone comes with apps that kill the battery and that I should disable them. I told her I have already tried screwing around with apps and sync times and nothing works. I asked her if Verizon has an extended battery for the phone so she looked it up and found it. She then transferred me to a customer service rep who could sell me the battery. I very politely asked the rep if there was any way to get a discount on the battery. This new rep went and got supervisor approval on a 25% discount which would have made the battery $44.99 plus tax which I was fine with. They ended up combining it with the 20% discount I already get on my account. It came to $35.xx total.

Just throwing it out there that you don't have to be mean to them to get your way. I was simply inquiring and then asked if they happened to have an extended battery that they could sell me. I wasn't counting on the discount especially since I already have the 20% discount on the account, but they gave it to me anyway.

Battery life on my incredible is pretty awesome with the OEM battery. I charge it every 2 days and I watch about 3 hours of video and another 2 hours of straight up surfing and playing games on it each day. The key is to not use any task killer, keep the brightness at 20% except when viewing videos then you can have your app crank it to 100%, and keep GPS off.

I'd be happy just to have an extra "standard" battery for backup. I got the phone because of the smaller profile, and half the weight of the original Droid, so I don't want to be lugging an anvil around with me. Just stash a standard battery in your wallet for emergencies.

The calling now to complain about them selling phones with known battery issues is okay (I guess) for some people, but it is kind of underhanded. After all, we all knew of the poor battery life before we bought it. So who's at fault?

With all due respect - and trying not to "get personal" - some of you folks are quite narrow minded & sound like you're living in a bit of a bubble.

I've had my HTC Incredible for 2 weeks now. Actually - I'm on my 2nd one. The first one ran hot - extremely hot. With a stock config. I did ample testing in various configurations (ie, wireless on/off, gps on/off, disabled background syncs, etc etc) and the thing just wanted to scorch. Unsat. It also had poor battery life. And it also had poor signal reception - especially data - in what should be a strong signal location (the greater Cleveland area).

The 2nd one I have - the battery life is still completely unsatisfactory. COMPLETELY. Those who complain are doing so legitimately. Maybe in the world of "Android" - constant charging & "using" your phone will suck your battery dry quickly - and some of you who've been in the Android world are "ok" with that - but for me, its unsat.

Sure - many factors come into play regarding battery life. One of the biggest is how well your reception is. In poor areas - battery drain is rapid. This will also heat up the phone too. Maybe that's "ALL" that is the cause of my poor battery life & causing my Incredibles to heat up - who knows. That's not my problem.

Ya see, I came to the HTC Incredible & Verizon to leave the "poor performing AT&T network" and to leave the arrogance of Apple in regards to the iPhone 4. But, I've got news for ya - my experience with the Android OS - in particular the HTC Incredible has me considering moving BACK to AT&T the iPhone 4.

When I DO have a 3G signal - the download & upload speeds are way low; I've never went over 200kbps either up or down. On AT&T - I never went below 900kbps up or down. In fact - I was consistantly over 1600kbps down & 1000kbps up. I didn't "drop" calls like you hear people complain about. On either my 3GS or 4.

I NEVER had my iPhone battery run dead on me ONCE. E V E R. That is a fact. And I AM what you call a "power user". If I didn't use my iPhone much - other than a few phone calls, texts, emails & a few web page hits - my phone could easily stay charged 2 - 3 days.

The bottom line - battery life & making calls are basic functions of a phone - be it a smart one or dumb one. The Incredible is leaps and bounds away from operating as smoothly as an iPhone 3GS or 4. That's a fact. Sure - out of the box, it is far more configurable - but other than that - it pales in almost every other category (oh - wait - FroYo 2.2 will have a FLASH beta that "sorta" works...big deal. Flash will be on jailbroken iphones any day now too). Besides, once jailbroken - which is extremely safe & easy to do - you can get apps to configure the iPhone to do just about anything you'd want.

I could go on & on about the comparisons - and rightfully so. These phones are in the same price point. They directly compete with one another - but the fact is - Android phones just aren't "there" yet. They pale massively in comparison. I don't want to give Apple my money. I belive for all the hype of the iPhone 4's release - that it was only a minor upgrade - and in some aspects - even a downgrade - to the iPhone 3gs. However, even on its worst day, either iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 blow these Andoid devices away.

And I'm no Apple 'fanboy'. I can't stand Apple - but, I can't deny - what they offer works; at least it works much better than these devices. And I never ONCE had to worry about or even entertain a discussion about 'battery life' with the iPhone. Correction - since I didn't use BlueTooth that often - I used to turn it off - for good measure; but even when I had it on - I never ran my iPhone battery dry.

I've done more "work arounds" & spent more time to make simple things work in the last 2 weeks than I ever have spent on 2 iphones over the course of a year on a jailbroken iphone. Maybe in a year or two - Android phones will be up to par - but clearly they aren't yet, as evident in the number of "extended battery's" both for sale, and the number of threads around the web discussion the shortcomings of battery life.

So - since I cut my UPC symbol off my box - my next stop after here is to eBay...and once that's sold - back to AT&T for an iPhone 4. Believe me - I don't want to go back to "Apple" - but I need something that works, that I don't have to think about - I just can USE.

Some contradictory statements here my good man. You left the "poor performing" ATT network that you never dropped a call on? WTF does that mean? Your upload and download speeds were simply incredible on the poor performing network as well?

You're "considering moving back" to ATT yet on the bottom statement you are actually moving back? What changed from the top of your post to the bottom? Perhaps the bullshit just overwhelmed you and you got confused?

Oh well, nice first post. Keep those cards and letters coming.

You've got to be kidding! You are obviously an Apple Fanboy that has drunk about 55 gallons of Hater Aide. Name one function that your Iphoney has that the Incredible doesn't have. The battery on my Incredible has not "run dry" on me "Ever". Go back to AT&T and get your iPhone 4 (That will loose the poor AT&T signal if you don't hold it just right and that can't connect to WIFI if more that one other device is connected to it at the same time) and see if any Droid phone owners miss you. Just don't come on this forum trying to flame the very phone the forum is about. I don't believe you even own an Incredible anyway.

Back OT just got off the horn with VZW and got an extended battery at a discounted price, I explained that just today my battery is at 19% with 10 minutes of use through out a 8 hour day. She swiftly offered a new stock battery but I then informed that that just wont suffice. SOo hopefully I notice a difference.

Hi guys first post. Today was my fist day using my DINC. I turned it on at 8:00AM EST and its now 8:40PM EST. I still have over half my battery life left on the stock battery. I did everything today that I normally would do with my HTC Touch Pro 2 (surf the web a few times, check the weather, tinker around with all the menus, surfed for some apps, played around with Google maps, text a few people and made a few phone calls). So far I don't see an issue with the stock battery. I know with my Touch Pro 2 if I ran a music app my battery would be dead within 2 hours. I don't see the DNIC being any different then other phones right now. I made sure I only turned the GPS on for using Google maps and turned it off after that. Also I had wifi turned off. I can see getting a good day and a half out of the stock battery.

You have a bigger problem than a battery. 10 minutes of use and 81% drain? Come on, you must be kidding. Please explain.

I purchased 2 new 1800mAh batteries, plus wall charger off of eBay, from a seller in California, for less than $30. The batteries are stock size, and fit with the stock cover. These batteries make a HUGE difference in the DInc's battery life, and make the whole battery issue moot.

Actually, I just looked them up, and they are 1800mAh, not 1850, but they are still a hell of a lot better than the stock, and yes, they are the same size.

The difference will be an additional 7 minutes. Your phone has a bigger problem that a bigger battery will not solve. You either have a bad stock battery or something is draining your battery and until you figure out what it is you will have nothing but extremely short battery life.

So to go along with everyone else who hates their stock battery life....today, i finally went in to verizon wireless because of this issue. the person who helped me was EXTREMELY unhelpful, incredibly rude and not willing to keep a customer happy or even to stay with verizon!! so, i asked to speak to the manager, who was a complete turn around from the first lady. the manager actually admitted to me that the battery was a known issue, she had concern for me on a customer level and after letting her know i almost cancelled my contract and went to AT&T and trying the guilt effect by saying how am i supposed to be stuck with a phone that i have to charge 2-3 times a day for 2 years, she gave me the extended battery (cover included) half off!

and for those of you who think its "way too big" and adds too much bulk, for those who are not so detail focused, the battery is excellent. it adds all of maybe 2-3mm to the back of the phone and barely any weight, at least not enough weight to make it an issue. plus, the new cover protects all of the camera lens face except for what is needed, which i think is a plus.

on a plus side for me, my clear silicone case will now no longer fit, so a return price of $15 essentially made this extended battery come to a grand total of $15! a bargain over ebay's bidallies battery i think!
