Root Getting a Thunderbolt

I sold my D2 on ebay today and I will be getting a new TB tomorrow. I will also be rooting it as soon as I get home. Just trying to decide which method to use. The hardest part will be trying to figure out which ROM and Kernel to Flash first. :D

Welcome and congrats on your soon to be new obsession :)

My vote would be for the setup in my signature. For me, it's been the best I've found so far for performance and battery life

This is what I ended up using to root my phone. Tried the other method with no luck, actually was doing it step by step with another friend and when we both got to one point, we both had different boot screens. Ended up using the easyroot from above and it went 1-2-3 no problem.

Also agree with WormDoes, running very close to the same as his signature, with the exception that I'm running 1.4 Remix version.

i used the "easyroot" method and i found it to be not so easy. i had multiple small prollems,a couple that required pc reboots to fix... and had to run each step multiple times.

there is also a "one click for windows" method out also: [SCRIPT] Windows One Click Root Method [3/26/11] - xda-developers i havent used it,so i cant really comment on it.

in retrospect i wish i had just done it the old school adb way,and if for some reason i ever have to re-root,thats the method ill use. once you get adb set up and drivers installed so it sees your phone(wich is needed for all methods) its pretty easy to cut and paste the commands and reboot the phone where the directions tell you to.

I used "easy root" as well and while I didn't have to reboot my PC I did have to run each step multiple times.

I'd reccomend which ever process you feel the most confidant with after reading up on them. It doesn't matter which method you chose, they'll all get you the same result

Before I try the method I posted do I still need to download ADB and the HTC Drivers?

I don't believe so. I had ADB partially setup (still to this day can't get it to see my phone :() on my phone when I used that method, but it wasn't needed

:)
I would recommend it. Google ADB commands and practice doing things like rebooting your phone before running the program. I found it helpful to have a command window open so I could see if ADB was still seeing the phone at each each step.

I believe that you'll need to install the drivers even if you chose not to set up ADB, but I could be wrong...

I went ahead and downloaded and installed HTC Sync....

Just got home from getting my TB.... This is the best phone I have ever had. Some may think I am crazy but I actually like Sense. I think I'll wait a few days before I root. Just to make sure my TB is working properly.
