Help ? getting internet on laptop using my Incredible

I have the Incredible. I use Verizon. I travel from home quite a bit and would like to be able to use the Incredible to access the internet on my MAC. How do I do this. I have tried HotSpot Connect and it said Wi-Fi not available. I'm extremely new to smartphones of any type so step-by-step directions would be so much appreciated.
 
Tethering Natively is FREE, without 3rd party apps and is as legit as PDAnet (Just search the forum for "Tether Natively"
