Getting my first tattoo

You are gonna want to keep putting antibiotic ointment on. And honestly for the next 5-7 days , you shouldnt allow your bra strap onto your beautiful tattoo anything tight or constricting at this time can draw some of the ink out . the skin needs time to breathe and heal.:)

Good point. It's still pretty tender too so I think I'll be one strapping it for a while.

Well, I am 55 years old, and have several tattoos, and I like to think of myself as a well educated, classy lady, however, I do realize that some people may not have that first impression of me when they discover that I have tattoos. I say to each his own. Beauty is very subjective! It is always a very personal choice how to decorate your body, whether it be with art, jewelry, piercings, or any number of other art forms that the many diverse cultures of this world celebrate. The one thing that I do know is that you can NEVER control what others think about you, and as long as you are happy with your choices in life, that is really what matters most.:)

Edit: Very nice tat, btw!

In my opinion, experience marks us more deeply than any tattoo can.

I have my share of scars and whatnot, have seen no reason to further adorn myself with ink.

I agree that while a tasteful tattoo might look good now; but ten, fifteen, twenty years from now, it is unlikely that it will look good then.

yeah but by then who cares what it looks like? 20 yrs from now it would not really make a difference for me. not that it does now.

plus most peeps who get tats do it for themselves and not for other people. but again it is not for everybody.

Wow. Here I was under the impression that most people were vain enough to want to look good regardless of their age... or is this one of those YOLO things?

Whatever. I am not a looker by any means, but I still like to look as decent as I can, within reason. Were I ever to get a tattoo, it would be something that would not look absolutely ridiculous in my retirement.

well not me, by the time i old.....i just want to be able to kick back and live....LOL who cares if my tats gets stretched and faded. it is not like i will still be in the dating scene looking for a hot young lass to take home.

to me tats are just a freedom to express yourself. if that is how you choose to do it, then good for you.

like the op, i love her tat. it looks great on her and i think she wears it well.

as you said beaty is subjective, but there are also echelons of beauty. Tattoos fall out of most categories. And you are wrong about "You can never control what people think of you". You can. If you are going to show up at the Oscar ceremony in jeans, or to a business meeting in flip flops and shirts. Manners work the same way, I pit left and right when, I'm riding my road bike, It's not like I do it when I walk down the street. Tattoo is something that you can not take off. And I don't believe that any person with tattoo have never felt obnoxious about it.

Your art is beautiful opalfrog. Not only was it well done but you prove to be a great canvas. I know you have to be very relieved and proud of the outcome. It's a crazy experience eh? Follow the good advice left in this thread and your tatt will be a trophy piece forever.

There was some concern earlier in this thread about the longevity of ink art. I have tatts that are decades old and they still look nice. Perhaps they might look odd on an old man.. but not at all to me. They are a part of me and I wear them with pride.
I don't host dated material like "I like Ike" or something that seems ridiculous as time passes. Your tatt will always be viewed as art and your great grandchildren will admire what granny did back in the early 2000's :) Well done!

I to have tatts that date back 20 something years and have to say they still look great for their age. Like Olbriar I also do not have anything that is "Dated Material" but what I have not only do I still like it but so does my wife and kids.

As far as controlling what others think I really don't bother. Think what you will of me as long as my family loves me and my friends love me then your opinion of me really doesn't matter and yes I'm that guy who would show up to a business meeting in Jeans and flip flops why well hell just because I can.

You can definitely influence what some people think of you with your behavior, and manner of dress, but you can NEVER control what others will think of you. ;):)

Well just did the taxes and it looks like I will have some money to get some new ink. I am a major Pink Floyd fan so thinking of doing a sleeve of nothing but Floyd Images. Stuff from Atom Heart Mothers to ofcourse the Wall. Atom Heart being on of my favorite albums of all time next to Darkside of the Moon.

What would you get had you the money to get a new tatt?

Personally I think we need our own forum for nothing but tatts here in the android community. :D

Opal how is yours doing you? has it healed yet?

I definitely want to see pics when your done. I always liked surrealism and they have some interesting art work.

My new tattoo is doing pretty good so far. I think it's almost completely healed. There's a couple small areas I can feel a slight texture difference but other than that I think it's just about done doing what it's gonna do. Can't wait till I can scratch my shoulder again. It doesn't itch very often but when it does OMG it itches like crazy.

not sure what lotion your using but I use Palmers Coco Butter and it has kept itching down to a very minimal for me with the last couple i've gotten that I used it with.

I have to say that although I don't think I would be ever get one, I can admire them, and that's a beauty :-) placement is perfect, Imo. U can choose to show it or not based on your mood or situation.
I have a friend with Floyd art on her leg. Looks cool. Post a design when u decide :-)

I used this stuff called Tattoo Goo I got from the place I got my tattoo. I figured I'd give it a try and I liked it. It was soothing on my skin when the tattoo was new and it lasted a good while before I need to reapply. It's basically beeswax and several different oils and can also double as chapstick if you've lost yours lol.

I think I'll try the Palmers. I'd be nice to have something I can use on my hands too. They get real dry this time of year.
