Root Getting Optimus V Soon - Root Help

Hello, I found these forums while I was obsessing over the LG Optimus V (which I'm getting in less than a month), and I had a few simple questions...

What exactly would I get if I rooted the phone (stock-only root, please) and what is a step-by-step way to do it (yes, there are different threads but most of them don't explain it in entirely readable English...links to readable posts would be appreciated). And also, would a stock-only root mean it's safe to factory reset? I saw another thread about this, however that was about a custom ROM...does this apply to stock rooting too?

I don't want to risk messing it up so soon after I get it, so please give me a tutorial that is consistent with whatever version I would be getting around early July. I am familiar with geeky stuff, maybe more familiar than many people would want to be (unless they want to be a video game programmer ). Thanks, any help is appreciated.

And also, if you have enough time and memory capacity, could you list a few great starter apps? I know there's a thread for it, but it's convenient having everything in one place...

This Link Right Here way I used to root. You might also want to read this also Just make sure to follow each step EXACTLY to avoid screwing it up.

Apps to start with? Superuser of course. Link2SD is the most useful for putting all of your apps on your SD card. Titanium backup, Adblock android, and Permissions.
