Apps Getting started left me with a flat tyre...Android Studio

Well it is funny, I just re-installed Android Studio and I am just trying to learn more on the application, however I think that there is something inconsistent with the "event trapping" mechanism of the AVD as the virtual device does not seem to unlock, and, the last time I reported this as a bug I got a lot of pushback from the developers fora, so I am not sure how to tackle this problem right now.

Also I had a "view" where I could see the AVD and drag and drop things to it but I just cannot find the icon right now, so I cannot design anything.

Help!!

Hi Jon!

I've moved this here so that it gets eyeballed by members involved in app development. Hopefully someone can offer advice.

Thanks, isn't it possible to change my avatar in this forum, maybe I like my usual fancy picture of batman? :)

Virtual devices are always flaky and don't always work like real devices in a bunch of aspects. the first thing that I would do is create a new virtual device to test. Android Studio has a nice set of presets if you are up to date.

About the "view" I have no clue what you're talking about... can you elaborate more?

Well, I am referring to the fact that when I create a new application a nice drag and drop interface shows up and this does not seem to be very documented as I struggle to understand how to create simple "OnClick" events, so I keep asking myself why I switched from Visual Studio!

I close off Android Studio, and, I cannot find this designer anywhere, it's like David Copperfield, it magically disappears!

I am talking about the view I get when I browse under \res\layout\Activity..xml, and, somehow I cannot seem to be able to upload pictures and screenshots to this forum which may limit your understanding of my question.
