Getting the Huawei Ascend (Metro PCS) next month

I'm excited about it since its a bit of a belated birthday gift (today is my b-day) and it's going to my first smartphone and my first android handset I've ever owned. I was wondering, after I root it (I've rooted other android phones), what else should I get for the phone software wise so that I can have the phone running as optimized as possible and whatnot.

EDIT: I also wanted to give a thanks to Jazziette and joser116, for their helpfuness in the community I'm going to be joining. I do admit, I followed the forum for a bit before deciding to join after seeing their willingness to go out of their way to help and that made me make the jump to this community.

Launcher Pro, Juice Defender, SetCPU, cache cleaner, z4root, and make sure you check the thread about favorite apps for Ascend users

Happy Birthday!!! :D:D:D

We all have our favorites that are kind of 'standard' ones that most of us use.

And fortunately most have free versions or trials so you can see if you like them before you buy them.

I'll be back in a jif with a couple of links for you that will be of help.

Edit: Looks like you got the help you needed already!!! LOL

Welcome to the Ascend friendly neighborhood!!! :)

Thanks Jazz, it's just I'm a very careful person when it comes to hacking electronics and do all the at most research, even if I can't afford said item XD I don't know if I'll be able to buy android apps since I can't work until I do my first summer job, hosted by states DEM. Good for you, DD!!! :)

Here's a good Guide to Rooting your phone when you decide to do it. We collaborated on this and keep modifying it to make it better and easier.

thank you once again, but one thing I've researched through this forum is the problem with re-installing deleted .apk or other things using TB (titanium back-up), is there any update on that issue? Would you like it if I went about the interwebs and searched for a possible solution?

Sure! Did you read the link to the Guide for Backup and Restore w/Titanium Backup that was given to us by one of the Moderators?

Also, if you have the Pro version of Titanium Backup you can 'freeze' and restore very easily.

Unfortunately some of us didn't discover this until we had already uninstalled our stock apps.

So we are modifying constantly. But sure...anything you come up with is fine. Especially if you have tried and confirmed it works. There is a lot of info out there on forums that isn't accurate. Just an FYI.

LOL

thank Jazz, my friend recommended I use applanet as they give free copies of a lot of apps (of course they pay for the users to download out of their pocket and those that donate). Apparently their a very respected community since almost all of them donate constantly.

It is against the policy of this forum (Android Forums) to even post links to what they consider to be 'piracy' sites.

I'm not saying it is but actually I think that if a developer has an app he has worked hard on he deserves to be paid for it.

JMHO

from what my friend said, the website, pays the developers for the app through donations. I honestly don't get it. Say, is there a chance Huawei may try to make a phone similar to say the Nexus 1 or the EVO since it would be dirt cheap for them to manufacture?

Ya know...ALL the phones are manufactured 'dirt cheap' !!! They've just been ripping the consumer off for years and now Huawei seems to have taken a stand. According to their CEO ....users have been paying way too much and they want to offer them a nice high end phone at a fair price. :)

Check out the new Huawei IDEOS X6 !!!
