Root Getting Warm 2.2 to run well on my Evo

Hemlock

Newbie
I love the Warm two point two rom, however I just can't get it to work well on my Evo. The battery life is terrible, I get maybe 4 hours max. Plus, after awhile I start getting force closes and lag with the UI. I did do a wipe before I flashed the Rom through Rom Manager and I selected the #11 kernel. I tryed a few other kernels that I updated throught the Warm updater, but none seemed to fix the problem.

Is there something i'm doing wrong because I keep seeing post where others are using this kernel and getting good battery life and a stable UI.

So my basic questions is what's the best way to flash this Rom on my Evo and what kernel and addons should I include?

Please help me get this working on my phone, when it does work it is by far my favorite custom rom.

Thanks

Did you install the new RLS5 release? or RLS4? And if you did install RLS5 did you also install the new radios package for it?

When you say you did a "wipe," what exactly did you wipe?

Did you flash the new radios as well?

If you did a full wipe (data, dalvik cache, etc.) and you updated your radios to accomodate the 3.70 upgrade, then I would recommend redownloading the ROM and completely starting over - full wipe, etc. If you are only getting 4 hours there is definitely a problem that can be fixed.

Also if after doing all of this you are still getting performance issues you can start testing out the different recommended kernals that Myn suggests for his Rom.

I already had the newest radios and had 3.7 before flashing this rom and I'm getting really bad battery life too:D

i just flashed this ROM just a week ago and im using 2.6.32.15-netarchy-toastmod-4.1.9.1-cfs kernal version...it works great the battery life is very good. from rom manager when you select myn's it asks you if you want to install this kernal...there are 3 different options of kernals to choose from.

When you look at the battery stats in about phone and in spare parts are you able to see what's using most of the battery?

Have you installed a bunch of crap or is it still pretty bare?

If all else fails wipe everything and try a reinstall.

Make sure you wipe cache and dalvik prior to any ROM or kernel flash. I've never flashed through ROM manager so I'm not sure of the exact process it uses. You might want to download the rom zip file directly to your pc then move it over to your sd card. Then perform a nandroid backup just in case, wipe cache and dalvik, and then flash the ROM.

I personally, had to take it even a step further by wiping battery info for some odd reason. I've read here in the forums that it prob. wouldn't make a difference, but it sure did with me (so far...crossing fingers :) ).

RLS5 requires a full wipe of data, cache and dalvik. It also calls for the newest radio to be installed I think prior to installing it. From there you can give it a day or so to "settle" and see what kind of battery life you get, or you can flash one of the newer kernels. Depending on your hardware version as well you might need to use even more specific kernels that support your camera.

If your having battery issues. I would go through a check list of all the things that drain the battery. Make sure you don't have certain things running.
For Example:
Widgets that constantly update. I have a few but not many. Email that constantly syncs. I have my gmail and exchange account sync once an hour instead of instantly. There is a program called system panel (i think thats the correct name) go through that and see what program is constantly running. I found that my qik app, which i never use runs and drains my battery. So i used titanium back up to freeze it. Problem solved. The only constantly updating widgets i use are Friend stream and weather. Although you can tone those down once an hour or even longer if you want. The more things that your phone is doing the more it will drain your battery. Also you might want to put the power widget on one of your desktops, for dimming the screen when not needed. If you do some of these things plus more This rom will be awesome!!

I had the same issues but I found out that I had set facebook to check for updates every 30 mins and had to set proper times for the phone to update via rss feed (e.g. emails, facebook, twitter, ect). I just have question though. How do you know when a new kernel is installed? I installed the Netarchy kernel but i don't know if its installed or not. Where can I go to check it?

Recently after flashing this ROM I began receiving Network Error msgs when going to Market, so with apps like WeatherBug Elite (I have it loading at boot up). I traced this error down to the phones wireless card being on and active (with a verified connection) and for some reason, 3G Sprint network is UNABLE to make a connection at this time thereby generating this error msg, and I keep getting it UNTIL I disable WiFi. Then 3G kicks in and everything is ok. This has not been a problem in the past. Anybody else???

What exactly are you saying? You have no connection to the internet while on wifi, but it works on 3g?

Actually just saying that at times (usually at bootup), and i try to go to the market i will get a "Network Error" and it will continue until i turn off wifi, then ill see the 3G icon pop up in the usual place and at that time i no longer get the error. Even at mid day if ive been away from the phone for a couple hours it will happen then too and ill have to do the same thing as described above. This isnt because of no internet connection either because i can surf the internet.

And does it start working again if you turn wifi back on or does it only work once you switch to 3g? Does it do it with just one wifi connection, or do you not have any others to connect to in order to test?

:(

Yes, i always go right back to wifi because it uses less battery power.

So which radio is best to use with RLS5, the newest one or the older one?

From MY experience the new one seems to work best my Wireless Tether seems to work way better since I flashed new radio. Also I don't know if it matters but, ALOT of people (mainly my girl) was complaining about me not answering my phone.. problem was it was not ringing! Haven't had this problem since either. JMO
