Root Ginger Villain 1.6

Been running this rom for 5 days now. Issues I've had all seem to be gone now.
Navigon - I was trying to put it on from a backup - didn't work. Had to re download from the Android Marketplace. Went straight on and worked fine.
Wifi - initially slow to connect to my home network - typically the icon stayed white for a minute before going green and working. This issue seems to have resolved itself too.
No F/C's other than the Navigon backup (which is now sorted)
Everything working fine.

Have to say I'm impressed with this rom. If I decide to stay with it long term I think I may have to send a few beer tokens to the dev.
I've been running it for 2 days and having a similar wifi problem. It won't stay connected. The FCs have resolved themselves so maybe I should just wait it out a few more days too

Anyone having a problem where after a while windows fail to pop up?

When using the keyboard, after the phone has been on for a while and I hold down a key, the little buttons that pop up to ask which key you want to press don't appear. For example, when you hold down the dot button on the keyboard a black window usually opens up with a list of different characters you can use, but after a while this simply doesn't appear! I can still move my finger around to press the key I want, I just can't see what it is I'm pressing. The usual keyboard still dims but the popup one doesn't appear.

Also, in Astrid when I add a new task and I select "Specific date/time" it usually pops up a calendar, but when the phone has been on a while the calendar doesn't appear! At first I didn't think this was related to the keyboard issue but now I'm thinking maybe it is.

Another thing which may/may not be related (as they're all display related issues) is that after a while the address bar in both Dolphin Browser HD and the default Android Browser fails to update when I type in it. I can still visit websites, it's just that the display doesn't update to show what I've typed in - unless I force it to update by pressing inside the box and then moving the trackpad to reposition the insert caret.

All very annoying problems as the only thing that seems to fix them is a reboot! As yet I haven't managed to pinpoint whether or not it's something specific that's causing these issues. All I can say is that it seems to be when the phone has been on for quite a while.

As it goes, i'm having the exact same issue intermittently, by any chance are you using the HTC IME mod keyboard? if so going into the settings and 'killing' the keyboard seems to cure it until it does it again. well at least it does for me.

Going to flash 1.7 and hope it cures it

  • Got all the latest CM stuff (CMparts.apk)
  • Disable write cache in SD mounted to PC mode. Writes happen immediately instead of writing to cache to be written later on
  • Sounds like a keep-alive for receiving via bluetooth? Preventing BT stopping/sleeping etc whilst receiving data?
  • BFQ is default I/O Scheduler and updated to latest version BFQ explained
  • Touch input improved against accidental double tap maybe?
  • You can again set your own voltage levels on the kernel. It works again
  • updated to latest kernel version

This may be a bit of a stupid question, but i just wanted to double check how often you need to run the 'cache sd' with terminal emulator, i assume its just each time you update the ROM as oppose to after installing a new kernel or mod?

I think this is not necessary if you are just updating a GV ROM version without any wipe/reset.

Edit: beaten by SUroot...

Launcherpro?
I got rid of LP because I was getting a lot more FCs than usual and the slight bit of stutter when scrolling it's app drawer(compared to GVs smoothness) was bugging me.

I just installed a nice GV theme but the Phone and Internet icons are still green even though the developer's screenshots are not.

Interesting. I'm using LP and so far it is behaving OK (with GV v1.7). LP's Apps drawer is scrolling even smoother than GV's standard Launcher. 1-2 taps and it is already end of the list, while it takes more taps with Launcher.

Actually, now you mention it I think LP was quicker and that might be why I noticed a stutter.

Even the FCs may not have been down to LP. I should give it a second chance. Everyone deserves a second chance.

Ha. Absolutely.

On GV, go to Settings>Cyanogen Settings>Performance.

Set VMheap to 32. Select "Lock home in memory". This may sort any performance issues with LP you had.
