Why is it nobody ever answers the question? What in this update is so exciting? I run gingerbead and honestly I do not know the answer.

Agreed. Posted by yours truly back in mid-July:

Considering all that's gone on in this thread, I think there's going to be a whole lotta disappointed people when GB does hit the Inc. Kinda like the kid waking up on Christmas morning hoping for a new bike and ending up with socks and underwear. GB is REALLY not that big of a deal in the way of an upgrade IMO.

If I don't get my Gingerbread update in the next 13 nanoseconds ... no, no, if I don't retroactively get it FIVE YEARS AGO on my Motorola Razr, I'm gonna call for a Congressional investigation! I'm gonna demand that Verizon, Google and HTC be nationalized, with me as the new Czar of Gingerbread! I'm gonna go to the grocery store and buy some gingerbread cookies!!!!1!!

Ahh, who am I kidding. I'm not gonna do any of those things. I'll probably buy Oreos.

Ok, I have searched several other forums, but still can't figure-out how to get to the latest version 4.06.605.3, so I am soliciting ideas

Here are the things I've done so far:

4. Could not get HBOOT to load file "update.zip" so I renamed it to "PB31IMG.zip" as with the instructions in step 2. This resulted in just returning to HBOOT screen after "Checking PB31IMG" message

On the Inc i sent back mine did the same thing... hmm..

I hear its snappier, and will fix the 2 major issues with my phone being the inability to send/receive mms, and the "low space" notification.

I can tell you with certainty that the "low space" notification is not fixed in this update. In fact, I ended up getting two of those notifications after the update. I cleared several app data files to get rid of them.

I want 2.2 back! SOO many bugs in this OTA and its such a huge pain in my A**! Instant "low space" message, another "low space" error that says to clear 512kb of space to receive messages, missing apps, "message undelivered" error when there is no incoming/outgoing messages, battery life is not better, boots up slower, but hey look on the bright side... the clock flips. Had the update for two and a half days and hate it!

Inc. Stock Images | doug piston - Download the PB31IMG file and hboot it (flash through hboot). Its a full RUU, so full wipe. 172 MB.

You gotta move your apps from the phone to the sd card and back to the phone.

You gotta move your apps from the phone to the sd card and back to the phone.

I'm not sure moving them to the sd card and back will do anything (ok, it's possible the lib files don't get moved back). You're probably better off keeping them on the sd card (be advised that moving an app to the sd card prevents any widgets that app has from working). I think you might have misread the suggestion that people who had apps on the sd card should move them back to the phone and then back to the sd card.

You can go to applications>manage applications>all then select apps one at a time to move (you'll probably want to hit the menu button and sort the list by size).

I don't know if this will work for everyone, but in my case, I had checked several times a week for the last 2+ weeks and no update was offered. However, I just got the new Bionic on Thursday, and gave my husband my Incredible to replace his worn out Eris. Anyway, when I did the factory reset, and it loaded back up, the "available update" notice flashed as he was setting up the screen. If you try this, make sure to do a backup on your data and apps first.

you already had "s-off".... all phones that are "s-on" can't be rooted.

It wouldnt work just installing a custom recovery so I used a different and uncommon method to install unrevoked and get it fully rooted. I do see what your saying considering I was only able to get it with s-off. When i installed the custom recovery ROM Manager wouldnt pick it up and etc... so as I said above i used a different method to use unrevoked to get it fully rooted.
