So, it's now live? Funny how I've not been notified, but it may just explain why the random reboots have started up again! I still have 2.2 Froyo, and that's all that I know of this.
I just read the abstract for new Gingerbread (they had to pick such a long name for it) features - support for front camera or rear and video calls (oh well, no front camera, so nobody gets to see how naked and ugly I am while talking to them).
The UI gets the improvements in the virtual keyboard department, which I suppose would be impossible to make any worse, whatever they change or add.
Not surprisingly, no changes are promised with the really bad aggravation of any excercise app which I may try being rendered impractical to the point of uselessness, due to screen needing to be on, which would give you very little time even on the lowest screen settings before the battery is gone. I know, this is an HTC problem, but HTC should have worked this out with Android (should they need to) to correct this issue by now. I have perused numerous threads on this issue, and those who complained were mostly dismissed by the experts as whiners, and I don't like that, so I'm gonna make my own noise. I must presume that those who see it as unimportant never had a phone which can track your steps with the screen off, all day or all week, no matter what you are running or not running on your phone. Mine was a simple accelerometer with step counter software, but it was very handy, and it was part of a non-smartphone Sony slider, which I picked up free with the contract more than four years ago. I have no shortage of reasons to love my DINC, but on my much more "advanced" DINC I cannot do that, and for that I'm pissed.
I also don't suppose that for all the blood-pressure-raising nightmares and aggravations which go with a factory reset and reinstall, Verizon will reward me with the ability to make my plans with Web assistance while talking to friends. The Verizon executive who downplayed the importance of such use is himself much too useless for his salary.
On the subject of nightmares and aggravations, I'm still recovering from the Froyo migration nightmare. The fact that a complete reinstall was necessary was not well communicated by Verizon for the benefit of us then newbies, but then it's still not clear why everything stops working on the present system, once the upgrade has been released. Suddenly a phone which for three months had no issues was heating up and randomly rebooting on me. I am starting to get periods of awful keyboard lag, and random reboots now, can that be related to the release of Gingerbread? On PC computers, there are many which still run good with Windows XP, and probably will five years from now, so I have to wonder if it's common for an Android phone to completely sh^t the bed as soon as the new OS is released? If so, why is this possible?
I also experienced the joy of finding out that my paid backup app failed me. MyBackupPro seemed promising, and I had selected carefully the option for backing up all my apps plus data, settings, and pictures onto my large 32G SD card, but somehow when I went to do the Restore it lost all settings and pictures! Anybody got a backup app which they like better?
