I don't think he deserves banning... but at this point, he will never get his credibility back, and no one should EVER hear Even say that he knew the release date of the update ahead of time. Let him talk, he clearly has some need to feel important, poor kid...
Everyone just promise that you'll post the moment your phone says you have an update! At this point, this should be all this thread is about. That and maybe what we want most from Gingerbread. Battery life, baby!

I doubt gingerbread will give you sick battery without root. Just my opinion.

LOL at all the hubub.

Evan is clearly a troll, and not a very entertaining one at that. He needs to come up with way more entertaining reasons for the delays. I for one am disapoint.

Folks. For those who read the froyo thread, guys like Evan made the thread more entertaining. If he is legit, them we are getting info. If not, he entertains. Either way it is a win for us all.

I have gingerbread and thanks to Evan I am enjoying this thread a ton.

I'm done waiting for the update. Can someone pm me the best Gingerbread rom and sense to use? If I do this, can I strill receive the official update without losng my stuff?

Use Nils Business Gingersense. There is a thread in the rom subform with information on how to go back to stock.

Sorry but I have no idea how they ban a guy who seriously COULD be genuine.

Do I believe him? Nope. Am I happy
He is here to entertain. Yup.

I get where you're coming from but in these cases there is a fine line between informing and trolling. trolls usually get banned or suspended. are mods able to contact this crackpot/real deal?

Its just frustrating. Maybe we can get the conversation back on track...

I would like HTC to do what it did with the Desire and remove some of the extra bloat Sense comes with. how about you?

OK, where to begin:)

The one on Drury Lane?
Thats the one!! Small world:)
I know the muffinman, but the one I'm thinking of sells muffins with a greenish tint and they have little green chunks...kind of smells like a skunk....hmm...same guy?? lmao
<--- peers down the alley... I have NO idea what you're talking about

+1 Fram hit it on the head
Alright, I'll play along. Since you said you "won't" leak it, this implies that you "could" leak it. Please navigate to the build.prop and tell me the build date on the ROM. That would give me a LOT of useful info.
+1, this would be useful
I'm mostly excited for the gumdrop buttons
Holy ****, there's gonna be GUMDROP BUTTONS!!!!!!!!!!

At any point you or anyone can !report one of his posts and explain your wishes/concerns in detail and we, as a moderator team, will discuss it. I have been following this thread since it was started last Nov and while I agree this Evan could be anyone I am not overly worried about it. I too was here for the Froyo thread which I found highly entertaining. In the end we will most likely never know if evan is legit or not.

I would ask though that we refrain from name-calling, even if it IS true, there is no way for us to know, letting him bait users into dishing out personal attacks helps/solves nothing.

I'm gonna PM evan and see if he responds, will report back as soon/if he responds.

Thanks for understanding

Heck, he could just PM it to you if he was worried about getting in trouble.

He's been asked multiple times for ANY proof that he is a VZW employee, much-less one who would have any knowledge of the Dinc. He's completely ignored the requests. As I'm sure he will this time.

No offense to him but this is the internet, your guilty of trolling until proved innocent here :)

We're coming up on 3-4 weeks of him claiming its coming out now? I figure he's increased his odds of being right by about 30%...

in closing, FEAR THE BUNNIES!~!

Ain't that adorable...theu have their own country, with a cute little flag and even hold a parliament in their clubhouse. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...

However, they really should get around to finding their own head of state. Not sure how the UK feels about sharing (or australia)

You might want to consider rooting now and and the update as a rom once it's out. The update could close some exploits that people use to achieve root.

+1. Root it now. Gingerbread is already running nicely.

Bloatware is not going to go down.

I do not think you are considered a troll by default.

Enjoy this folks. This thread is a yearly ritual that won't happen again.

Do we have an official gingerbread date poll yet. Always fun to start guessing. Ill take July 11th. Lol

As would I. I don't know of too many people that would risk their jobs to prove this to you. In other words, don't fault him for not proving it. His income is more important than his forum credibility.

Let's look at previous OS updates. The Froyo update got delayed several times, so there's already a precedent for OS updates being suddenly delayed at the last minute. It's not fair to hold Evan to a higher standard than what he has admitted to having no control over.

I don't understand what Even is saying that is so unbelievable. I do understand why people would be skeptical, but the moderator is right, no name calling. Nothing he's done warrants the vilification and venom spewing that is going on here. If you think he's troll then don't feed him by not saying anything.

Does that tend to happen a lot? I'd rather let the phone get the update from Verizon, as I don't know how stable the ROMs will be at first. Loosing root for a little while is better, to me, than loosing Gingerbread for just as long. After all, I'm not rooted now. My Eris was, though; rooting IS sweet.

Gingerbread is already stable with root. I'd root now. JMHO

I was suggesting waiting for the software from verizon to be available as a rom. So it's the same exact software, only with root (and you install it differently).

And it's fairly common to have an update break a root exploit (ok, maybe not common, but it does happen enough to worry about). My money is that it won't in this update, but it's always a possibility.

And for the record, this is how I've gone through the last 4+ updates, and I've always gotten the software this way FASTER than I would have gotten it as an OTA (Verizon and T-Mobile always picked my phone last for some reason :) ).

To sum up, if your ultimate goal is the Official Gingerbread update with root, you're best bet of getting that in a timely fashion is to root first (and maybe there's just a misunderstanding but rooting does not equal flashing a rom. You can root your phone now without changing the software.)

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. you mean they install VZ navigator and all the other junk? how about this... leave it alone. Why do you think so many people have to root and install different roms just to make the phone work how its supposed to? Also, why is Verizon paying you to sit on a forum discussing an outdated phone? Probably why our bills keep getting higher.

Yeah, they have to move the stand alone GPS setting, swap position of Google location services option with Verizon location services option so you accidentally choose the wrong one. Add in VZ Navigator on a phone with Google nav, add their $$$ app store, their must have apps like City I'D, Slacker, Skype, all this takes time and resources.

Wastes time and resources putting them in, wastes phone resources, an wastes our time trying to remove this junk.

It would be one thing if they were trying to improve the product!

Yes. Nils Business GingerSense is pretty functional...I think the only thing that isn't really working as far as I can tell is Netflix. Camera, GPS, Sense, all the other stuff is in there and good. I have been rocking Nils from 1.5, and was using 2.1 for quite some time as my daily driver. Am currently updating to 2.2 :)

call me dumb but is there any rom that is 100% functional? i.e. GPS, video recording

I don't know about 100%, but so far everything seems to be working for me on my HTC Droid Incredible (including video recording and gps) using CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-inc. And it is running Android 2.3.4! :D

I have been using CM7 ROMs for months now.

fast, clean, good battery life, and well-supported based on my experience.

CM7 doesn't have 720 video. Otheriwse it is fully functional.

MIUI, I think, is fully functional. Not sure.

Tons of fully functional froyo roms too.
