i think the evo3d has more than enough to distinguish itself from its older brother...

the original getting 2.3 will only improve the over all brandname .. therefore enhance the desire of evo3d, because customers will know how well it will be supported!

I agree, Dan. Although I am going to adjust my original prediction. I'm going to say update to gingerbread comes out a month before evo 3d release.

Assuming the evo 3d is released in time for gold premier members to be able to do their 1 year upgrade, that means early june release. That also means my new prediction is may for gingerbread on new evo.

There's always a possibility that they'll release earlier based on the theory that sprint would want to keep current evo owners happy, that moved over from another provider, but won't be able to upgrade to evo 3d this june.

I just got off the phone with a sprint rep. Who stated they have the update for evo4g they released it to a couple testers n they had bug problems like Sprint tv and YouTube videos would freeze the phone:cool:. He assured me that the evo4g and evoshift4g will get the gingerbread update by the end of April latest if not march. So rest assured we will get the update. If anyone questions this call Sprint and ask that's all it takes. Just make sure u have the right rep. Some reps don't even know what gingerbread is. Somthing to check out is the evo view and evo tab. I'm not sure about the names no confirmation..I do know its a 4.3 screen dual core processor and 3d graphics. There you are people the official word is yes. We will get the gingerbread update... thanks for your time. Go sprint!!

Cyanogenmod 7 RC2 (running Gingerbread 2.3.3) aka root your phone and enjoy the Gingerbread goodness :) its a lot more stable than RC1 obviously and they got WiMAX working finally! Give it a shot.

The EVO 3D is up on sprints website with the typical "email you when it's available" option. The specs look pretty sweet!! Not to crazy about the whole 3D thing but the new Snapdragon and 4gB!!!!! it's about time! We'll see how well it does

Awesome...I still love my EVO 4G and plan on keeping it for quite a while longer (I'm holding out for the new dual core cpus, more memory, better screens, etc). In the mean time, my awesome EVO just keeps getting better. Great move by HTC & Sprint, because with the track record they are building supporting their high end phones, both companies are my first choice when I'm in phone shopping mode again.

Never officially because sprint has moved on to other phones. Since the Evo3d has come out Sprint wont update the Evo again (save for some critical flaw)

Off topic I heard the droid x should see gingerbread this weekend (don't quote me on this) if that happens I will be surprise that the Evo or atleast the G2 didn't get it before the X.

I just got off the phone with a sprint rep. Who stated

You gotta be careful with stuff like this... I was a Sprint rep for the business wireless side of things... We weren't told anything. Now, it's possible this rep knows someone in engineering or something like that, but it's just as likely (even more so) that they were just making stuff up. (sorry to have to say that)

What I wonder is, why won't companies simply state: We will keep this device software updated for X amount of time, as long as the hardware meets the requirements.

The obvious answer is that I wouldn't buy the next thing if I knew mine was gonna work *almost* as well for the next X time period... but it sure would be nice.

I would. If I still had a yearly upgrade available, and the new one still had all the features that made the previous version so great. (i will have an available upgrade, but just trying to make a point).

^Ditto. If they wait till my contract is through before they give me an upgrade, who knows? I might jump carriers to get the next best thing. :)

Forgive me, I too am making a point.... :)

If I did not know any better I would think someone was wishing that the cell phone companies and wireless carriers were more like microsoft... Who has for a very long time provided a definitive chart of how long a versions of windows will be in support, and still people complain when they drop support for products...

I sincerely hope that GB lives up to the tremendous hype it has received. I'll just patiently wait and let it show me how good it is.

Actually, I'm expecting it to be an incremental update. I'm hoping the superior memory management will help things like the browser maintain fast response over running time, and that we'll see some camera codec updates.

As much or more than Gingerbread, I'm looking forward to the Sense update to go along with it. ;)

If there's one thing FROYO taught me was not to get too excited about these updates.

Now the new Sense on the other hand... :)
