I didn't read the whole thread, so forgive me if someone else brought it up, but isn't CM7 Gingerbread? It runs fine on my evo.

Yep, and that's a viable alternative, to be sure - mostly we're discussing / anticipating / guessing about the HTC release and the topic includes a bit of the new Sense upgrade with GB.

But - all Gingerbread input is welcome here. (Root discussions need to stay in All Things Root, tho.)

Maybe good to skim back and see other CM7 posts, many here have followed this thread from its beginning.

I'm waiting for next week - I keep reading about GB coming soon for other HTC devices - notably the Incredible 2 for Verizon, but I'm waiting on the dates and announcements from CTIA, March 22.

But my seat of the pants is saying before end of April - Sprint is running new ads to show their unlimited data plan is unlimited, not baloney, and others are fencing you in.

Sprint's seeing the opportunities created by others right now, so with any luck the penny will drop, the lights will come on, and they'll see the advantages of updating the Evo while everyone else is in their own new device tizzies over GB.

So - I'm gonna say end-of-CTIA + 30 days.

And yet - they're going to launch this _thing_ with 2.2 in that same time frame, so I'm not sure if I believe me yet -

early.. that makes sense.

but i find that none of the carriers do things that makes sense to me!
so heres to hoping!

It's my makes-sense predictions you gotta take with salt - my hare-brained ones are the ones coming true (srsly? 3D? srsly? I started that rumor as lark)...

I'm less hopeful in my prediciton of the end of the month being the target date, but not completely shutting that out.

I'm actually more eager to see what Sprint is going to announce at CTIA now. The HTC Knight (aka Speedy) is rumored to be one of them, but I find it kinda odd that they would announce this so shortly after releasing the EVO shift

Did the EVO get 2.3 (gingerbread) yet? I see some talk about the EVO getting it and i didn't recieve any over the air updates or anything yet and didn't get any messages saying that i can update or anything...So i'm just wondering if anyone knows if it came out yet??

No it hasn't. If it did, there would be talk of it all over the place. I doubt we're going to see it for a while either, I've kinda given up hope. Some people on xda are working on porting the Desire HD gingerbread sense 2.x rom to the evo but it's barely functional at the moment.

Just to set the record straight, it's Android v2.3, not v3.0. 2.3 is Gingerbread for our phones and 3.0 is Honeycomb for tablets.

When this thread was created Gingerbread was announced as "going to be" 3.0.

When the corrected announcement occurred, the thread title and poll were modified to reflect that.

considering the evo 3D is being released in the near future and its rumored to be shipping with gingerbread.. dont expect the original evo to get updated until that thing has been released and on the market for at least a month or so

i think the evo3d has more than enough to distinguish itself from its older brother...

the original getting 2.3 will only improve the over all brandname .. therefore enhance the desire of evo3d, because customers will know how well it will be supported!
