Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

These phones have highly sensitive microphones... I dont think there is a fix for that if there is alot of background noise.

But it shouldn't go from usable to unusable overnight with the new update in the same areas a person frequents.

In other words, under the same prior conditions, it is not working as well if at all consistently.

My voice search seems to be working the same as it always has. The only difference I have noticed took place before the update. When I do the voice search / speak now for text messages, I have to make sure that I give it an extra second before I start talking. Sometimes if I start talking too quick, I can say a whole sentence and it will not act like it hears anything. But if I click voice search, the window pops up, I wait a second, and then begin talking it seems to all work just fine.

So does mine, when not in a moving car. If you can, Do it in a car at highway speed and see if it works.

It worked fine before the update and stopped working after the update. It has nothing to do with sensitive microphones.

I hope they fix more than that...

I installed the upgrade when I was notified. It work pretty well for about a day, and then I noticed some quirkiness - like no audio. The notification chimes and all of that worked, but I couldn't playback music or things like youtube. So... I saw the new Restart button, and clicked it. From that point on, it was and endless loop of reboots. I never was able to get back to the desktop. I took in to the local service center thinking I would have to do a hard reset, and they said nope - they would have to replace the entire phone. They're replacing it at no charge, but they are on back order with no ship date in site. I have no idea what went wrong with it, but as soon as I told him what was going on, he immediate said, oh yea, your phone is toast. We'll have to replace it. And don't update your wife's EVO until the next release is out. Not sure whether to trust this latest one or not.

I hate not having my EVO!

I wonder how this patch can affect people so differently in a fixed environment such as a unrooted EVO? I can see issues on PC where the hardware and software can be varied, but a stock EVO should not present these types of issues imo. A rooted EVO yes probably. I have two EVO's, one brand new last week, and a second thats from Aug 2010. Older one was factory reset and as such, each was at base install then. I updated both to the latest patch. Never had voicemail issues, microphone does mute when at speed in vehicle making it hard to use voice software, & the Netflix issue, but otherwise battery life was extended and performance overall is great. Each is Hardware version 4, maybe that has something to do with it?

So here is one that has me confused to no end. Yesterday I went to visit my mom and my cousin was visiting too. We both have EVO's and we both upgraded to GB. I told him the problems I've had and he told me his and as far as Ican tell we both have the same issues like most posters. But the one that got me was the PRL. We compared our phones form software to hardware and everything was the same other than I have hardware 002 and he has 003.
So he told me that there was an update to the PRL. I looked at mine and it was the 01115 one but his was different 0596 or something like that. So I decided to try that update and when I rechecked it it still has the same old number.
Anyone able to explain that one to me? Thanks.

I'm still wondering whats up with the apps icons when they are in folder and you reset your phone. It's not a big deal, but annoying. Everything else on my EVO improved other then that.

So I have an Equinox 2011 with built in Bluetooth.

After upgrading my EVO to GB, my phone connects to my car via Bluetooth, but then will cycle between connecting / disconnecting automatically every minute or so. The timing is not consistent.

I unpaired then re-paired the phone with my car and it seems to only work when I do not give the car access to my phone book. When I give it access, it starts going through the cycle again. Or so it seems. I have to test it.

Anyone else having this issue?

I had the exact opposite problem (though I don't have an Equinox)... my phone running Froyo did what you describe. Once I upgraded to GB, it now works perfectly. Seems like you did find the workaround, just deny permission to access the phone book and ignore the errors and it works fine.

Here is what HTC told me when I contacted them about this problem. It happens with my wife's EVO as well.

Bluetooth in the Android OS is not designed to stay connected at all times unless the paired device uses the 'Headset' profile. Bluetooth Car Kits generally utilize the 'Hands-free' profile to meet the requirements of its system.

The update to Android 2.3 also updates the Bluetooth profile on the device. Due to this, there may now be a compatibility conflict between your phone and the vehicle. I recommend checking with your local dealer to see if there are any updates for the Bluetooth firmware in your vehicle.

Finally, I recommend performing a factory reset on the device. Note that this will erase all of your personal data from the phone and reset it to the factory settings of the current ROM. Please ensure that your personal data has been backed up prior to resetting the device. To reset the device, go to: Home> Menu> Settings> SD & Phone Storage> Factory data reset. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the reset and evaluate the results. I do apologize for any inconvenience.

When I first installed the update it acted exactly as you describe.after some digging i noticed that HTC sense was automatically set as default. And even after choosing launcher pro and checking the box I still had to manually clear the ddefaults set for sense before it would finally act right...

I just did 4 restarts in a row, and all I have is Sense. WTF is going on here? How did you access the defaults for Sense? I was able to see that Launcher Pro had some defaults set, but I didn't want to reset those defaults. I'd love to find the setting to remove Sense as the default, but I don't see that in the running apps.

OK, so after the 5th restart...I did nothing special this time...I get Launcher Pro...but my wallpaper is back to default. That's easy enough to fix...but now, I am scared to restart. I figure I'll have to go through this everytime.

Do you see this as something Launcher Pro needs to overcome with Gingerbread, or something that Gingerbread needs to address?

Go to your apps setting and check for all apps...then turn it off as your default. I have had Launcher Pro working fine since day one...I really do not like sense at all... I have yet to root but may before the Galaxy S2 drops

Try this: Settings. Search button. Type "Privacy". Tap Privacy. Check both options.

Seriously?!? of all the forums and threads I've read never known that existed. I'm so tempted to give MyBackup Pro another chance and do a factory reset and see if that works

OMG! I've been posting on these forums for over 1 year now and never, ever saw that setting.

? - What exactly does "back up my setting" do? Anybody actually know?

I must be dense...I can't find this.

When I go to the "Settings" menu, hitting the search button doesn't do anything.

Hi all, I'm a newbie so bear with me. After reading so many forums when the update was first released, I was afraid to update my Evo 4G. So i deliberately waited to see if there were any issues. I did come across a small group of HTC EVO 4G owners who never rooted their phone, say they did a factory reset first, downloaded the update, then another factory reset and never experienced any voicemail notification issues or any other problems. I was still sceptic so on June 11th I did what they did and so far by the grace of God, knock-on-wood, I've had no issues either. Things are working fine. I noticed some of you mentioned something about the PRL and Hardware version. My PRL is 01115 and Hardware is 0004, not sure if this has anything to do with the recent issues but I hope I was able to help solve any curiosity as to the whole factory reset suggestion. I want to say thank you to everyone on this site who has ever posted advice to fellow EVO users. @EarlyMon, you are very informative, you seem to know your stuff, thank you. I've read previous posts by you b4 I joined when I had my first EVO (I was robbed for my first Evo on the bus, SMH, crazy right? Dummy didn't realize it's a Sprint phone and not easy to just change a SIM card lol)but anyway your advice given about little issues I had was very helpful thank you. Hope I was able to help anyone having issues.
