Root Gingerbread installation errors

Android Expert
im trying to update from 2.3.340 to gingerbread. Im following the three part installation here. originally I was getting an error saying the second part was bad, so I redownloaded the second part. Now I get an error saying it's "failed to assert" then some other stuff, and finished with (status 7). I sbf'd back to bone stock 2.1, and then update to 2.3.340, reroot, bootstrap (tried both droid x and droid 2 bootstrap) etc... try again and it gives the same error. Any idea as to what the issue is? Should i redownload all the files again?

you are gonna have to sbf back to 2.2.1

get the deoxed rom

then get a gb rom

most roms need the deoxed roms

sorry for the delayed reply, just tried full SBF back to 2.2.1, and still getting the same error. redownloaded all the files again same error.

is there another way to install gingerbread other than the 3 files?

Have you tried to sbf back to 2.3.340 instead of going ALL the way back to the android 2.1?

yup. same error no matter how I go about it.

im gonna have to try another Dx and see if my sd card gives the same result. I may just have two bad sd cards.

Two bad sd cards in a row? It's possible but unlikely. There is a way to get GB without the 3 files but its the older GB (4.5.571). Here's a link to the file you will need.

Download the dxgbrooted.zip file. I myself had to go this route because I couldn't get the 3 files to work either. Once I got this one installed, sbf'ing back to stock worked and then I could flash the 3 files with no problem.

You're not having a problem getting back to stock right? just can't flash the GB?

yup i can SBF back to stock and install froyo based roms but the three step gingerbread is a PITA

ok i want to make sure of some things...

1. you're SBFing using RSDlite?
2. you're using the full .340 SBF file? where did you get it from?
3. you're installing all three GB files in order, and without leaving bootstrap in between installations?
4. you've checked the md5 checksum's of the files to make sure that the files themselves are not corrupted in anyway?

Give that file a try and let us know what happens.

so far so good, just finished SBF'ing back to .340, installing now. just finished installing, but it just send me to the moto logo and directly into bootloader. tried a few battery pulls and same thing. gonna do a quick data wipe and try again. cant get into recovery so im gonna sbf back :(

just noticed that my bootloader (version 30.04) has err:a5,69,35,00,27 now when it never used to.

ok i want to make sure of some things...

1. you're SBFing using RSDlite? Correct, not sure of the version, its the same RSD lit i used with my D1
2. you're using the full .340 SBF file? where did you get it from? im using the partial .340, but i have the full .320
3. you're installing all three GB files in order, and without leaving bootstrap in between installations?yup, doesnt even finish the first one, I get right past the top hat
4. you've checked the md5 checksum's of the files to make sure that the files themselves are not corrupted in anyway?
I havent checked all the md5 sums only part 2 since that was originally giving issues.

Before you sbf back again, plug your charger in with your battery out and turn the phone on. That should get you into recovery so you can do the reset.

EDIT: be sure to put your battery back in and unplug when you restart or it will just keep you in the recovery loop.

ok...

1. The latest RSDLite is version 4.9...i know for a fact 4.8 works fine...but you should get 4.9
2. make sure you have the latest drivers from Motorola installed
3. Get the FULL .340 SBF...that is part of the directions to installing GB...
4. check all the md5's

alright ill try the full 340 sbf.

way to snip my quote :(

any link to the full SBF?

i've tried this one http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-mods/6360-full-2-3-340-official-sbf.html but both links seem to be down (first says closed due to inactivity, second says it's forbidden and I don't have permissions to view)

way to snip my quote :(

click the quote button on the post that i responded too you will notice that the vast majority of your post will not transfer...

VBulletin forums do not transfer previous "quotes" to new quotes...meaning you cant have a quote in a quote...because most of your response was inside my quote the only thing that transfers to my response was the part about the MD5 checksums...in an attempt to speed up my response to you it was easier/less confusing to just get rid of the partial quote..

for example...if you quote your post this is all you get...

I havent checked all the md5 sums only part 2 since that was originally giving issues.

fair enough! now I remember why i like my droids so much more than my idevices. they actually make me work for stuff. even if I kill this phone I will get gingerbread working lol!

go here for the full SBF file the third file is the full SBF...when you unzip it you will see the file that RSDLite needs to flash

Index of ./DroidX/SBFs/2.2/

apparently my phone doesnt like the full .340 SBF, first few tries result in a critical erroe DEA1, also or just stops mid way and just shows connected (in RSD lite). gonna re download and hope for the best.

third times a charm, with sbf .340

Just want to thank you all for helping me get this going!

seems ive found success!

just needed the full .340 sbf not the partial

good loving the new look of gingerbur. now I just need to get back into things and start flashing new roms daily like my old D1 !
