Gingerbread release for Droid phones

Does anyone know when the release date for Android 2.3, Gingerbread, is on the Verizon Droid phones? I currently have a Droid 2 Global and am anxiously awaiting the release of Gingerbread.

well we have custom roms for our droids already such as liquid, cyanogenmod, ultimate droid etc.. As far as I'm aware 2.3 isn't going to get pushed any longer except for a few select phones like the Nexus. 2.4 is so close to release they decided to call 2.4 gingerbread instead of icecream and just merge the updates.

There's not currently "active" rumors for D2, R2D2, or D2G OTA updates.

Your best best if the ROM community which has some very talented developers.

Liberty seems to the best ROM out there for the D2, although I'm partial to Fusion/Fission which is rumored to be receiving an update soon for the D2G.

Are you saying we won't get anymore official updates?

Not at all.

All I'm saying is that unlike some other phone models where "leaks" and screen shots of Gingerbread being tested can be found on the Internet, the Droid 2 Family of products hasn't been host to said rumors and/or leaks. I believe Motorola has confirmed that the Droid X will be updated to Gingerbread which leads me to believe that the Droid 2 (and D2G, and R2D2) will follow suit. I just don't think it'll be sooner rather than later since the buzz scale is still rather low on our particular model.

You'll have to check the individual ROM threads, each has clear step by step guides on how to install that particular ROM. If you've already rooted and have created a backup using Recovery then feel free to hop right into those threads.

My suggestion is to start with Fission or Fusion since their integrated ROM manager does most of the heavy lifting for you.

Icecream? What happened to Honeycomb?

From what I've read in various places, GB for the Nexus one has more bugs than it's worth. Instead of the increased battery life that we're all expecting, many people are submitting bug reports of drastically decreased battery life.

installing now, will update on how it goes.

EDIT: Installed fine runs great. No root = :(, sbf back to 2.3.2. will wait for a rooted one

I might take 2.3.3 for a spin tonight. I was only using root to freeze the bloatware. I hear for the most part tho, most people actually enjoyed this newer version of Blur.

Currently running gingerbread. The only bug Ive come accross is that swype does not populate the word onto the text field after you've swyped it. Also there's a funny shadding effect on certain menus that looks weird but it kinda happens in froyo as well when you try to keep scrolling after reaching the end of a menu.

Any idea if these leaks will work with the D2G? Or would I just get stuck in airplane mode as the best result.
