Gingerbread release for Droid phones

From the actual google blog post linked in your quoted article:

To start, we're jointly announcing that new devices from participating partners will receive the latest Android platform upgrades for 18 months after the device is first released, as long as the hardware allows...and that's just the beginning. Stay tuned for more details.

They're clearly using the term "new devices" which implies those that haven't been launched yet. I'm sure updates will come to phones such as the D2 since the DPro and DX go theirs but simply making an assumption with the apparent imminent launch of a D3 makes it a tough sell.

Nice. Is it confirmed to be GB? Or just an update like the Pro go?

GB for Droid X was version 4.5.596, the linked .pdf says the new Droid 2 Global software is version 4.5.600. Seems like GB to me. Now if they'd just come out with GB for my Droid 2

I'll believe it when I see it.

its confirmed.. I work in the cellphone industry and you may find it on vzw.com but I cant take pictures of internal documents. but it'll be pushed out on the 15th for sure. I don't know about the original droid 2 though.

That to the general population? Or the so called soak test I read about over on MOTO's forums?

It seem questionable to me that the original Droid got an update to Gingerbread, yet the D2 won't. I guess we'd better be happy with the Monster leak.

I have been doing that since 4am this morning for mine and my wife's... nada. I'll try again right now.... yup, still nada.

I wish there was a manual install of the file available.
Amen to that. The way they distribute OTA is extremely annoying.

I think the D2 will see Gingerbread eventually. It is competing against the DX, OD, D2G and possibly the DPro for attention from the techs. Plus with the impending release of a Droid 3, it wouldn't make much business sense to give D2 users one less reason to hold off on upgrading since Gingerbread could breathe new life into D2's all over the network.

This is what VZW support tweeted to my question to them..VZW Support @VZWSupport replied to you:

@Richman1975 Hi! Gingerbread is being pushed systematically to all customers (You'll get it soon!). We cannot push to specific devices ^AC
