Root Gingerbread Root Exploit!!!

Follow the xda link and there's a great post on how to root with adb, theoretically you could do all with a terminal on your phone. Easy as pie! Took me about 5 minutes and I was rooted. Very easy. If you don't have adb set up just do it through a terminal emulator not as easy (can't copy & paste) but works none the less. Good luck and don't hold back or your flashaholics membership will automatically be renewed and they will take your phone away and make you use an old envy (1st gen)!

Ok, I understand why this is cool for when the OFFICIAL ota comes out maybe but is there really any reason for someone running 588 rooted now to flash back to 340 and then install 588 un-rooted and then use this method to root?
Are you gaining anything???

No, you gain nothing. Stick with what you have; if the OTA is different, you can download the new OTA and root it with this method.

Binary, does this mean that one can sbf within GB or from any Froyo version, without having to go back to 2.3.340 stock, and then simply use the root method? Cutting out the three file flash method as well?

This is all based on having the full .588 sbf of course.

Nah, seems to be about the same, though I'm having a problem with my battery manager after I deodex'd and flashed the batt 10% mod so I think there is some difference with P3's rooted and the unrooted then rooted .588, or just the batt mod screwed it up. But, back on point: only reason to do this is play, no reason if you are setup and happy. :D

If you are rooted (or have been),
If you have installed bootstrap,
If you have install CWR,
If you have removed any bloat,
Then (easiest) you must flash back to 2.3.340.

Otherwise if you do no meet the above criteria, use the update.zip and root it and you are good to go!!

IF we had the .588 SBF, then yes, that's what it would mean.

We don't have the .588 SBF, though. We just have the Moto update.zip file, which will only upgrade you from the stock FroYo.

Most of all, it means that (assuming it works on the actual OTA), if the OTA is in any way different from .588, people can happily go ahead and SBF to 2.3.340 (or not if they're already on .340), accept the OTA, and still have root.

I second what binary said...lol.....lets not forget, once the official ota gets released, someone will come up with a sbf for it. Once that happens messin with out phones will be made much easier and we can move on to exciting new mods and such......well......at least thats how i see things going.

I think that Cougar will stay in a Holiday Inn Express on May 9th and wake up only to crack the bootloader key the next morning.

where does one find the d2 bootstrap? and why doesn't the dx bootstrap work, I've been out of dx land for a while. I did use the new gingerbreak apk to root my old Dx this morning for the wife. Just need to get into recovery so I can make a backup.

You can use Bootstrap but you need to uncheck debugging.

aprreciate it guys, just used the dX bootstrap with debugging off since I already purchased it, worked great.
