Gingerbread Update?

I have the Droid X. This morning I woke up to a notification about a new update that my DX had downloaded and was ready to install. The notice looked like the notice I received on my Incredible when I upgraded it from Eclair to Froyo. So I allowed the install. Phone screen went black, a little Android appeared next to an open box above a loading bar. Phone did a reset and came back on. My screens all looked as they should. My settings were all as I had them before. Nothing seemed to have changed. I expected at least a visible change. As there was none, I went to Settings> About Phone and the System is reading 2.3.340.... so and so. It also says Android Version is 2.2.1. My question is did I get a Gingerbread Update? And if so, are there any noticeable changes? I was hoping the ennervating broken copy and paste would get overhauled but it hasn't. Should the Android Version be 2.3? If so, what's the difference between System and Android Versions?

weird that you just got the 2.3.340 update.....we have been on that for a few months i believe.

either way it is still Froyo as stated above....GB was just leaked and is amazing, and DOES a pretty solid job of copy/paste. grab Z4, root your device, and flash the GB leak.

Turdbogls - care to explain exactly how to do that? Or point to where it's explained? I understand what rooting is, but that's about it.

Grab Z4, root, flash the leak - sounds awful simple.

So you root, flash GB, then are you no longer rooted? and will get OTA updates?

Im not running GB leak yet. But the newest leak has root. You don't lose root now. You will most likely have to flash back to stock to receive the OTA when vzw pushes it.

Well when 2.2 OTA came out, everyone who had the leaked 2.2 update were advised to downgrade back to 2.1 to install the 2.2 OTA. (You can look for the guides on Droid-Life, but basically people who installed the leaked 2.2 couldn't upgrade to the official OTA). To be on the safe side, I'd just wait for the 2.3 OTA to come out.
