Root Gingerbread

I just rooted my 2.2 Dinc. Im using the stock rom but I changed the kernel to Hydra for the power (smooth as silk). I was wondering if I will still get the update OTA or will I have to install a custom rom to get it? I erased some bloat but other than that and the kernel I havent changed much. thanks in advance, sorry if this is a repeat question.

If you are rooted you NEVER want to accept an update unless you want to lose root. Wait for the community to release the update which is usually before it officially comes out anyway.
Just like we already have gingerbread and that probably won't be officially released for months.

ok so I should just wait for a sense based rom to include GB, right? i wanna keep the sense feel and just change some small stuff like icons and stuff. any recommendations? I was thinking Virtuous or Skyraider (spell check) but have heard good things about Cyanogen (spell check) as well. Any out already that might be interested in?

Try out Virtuous. It is a sense based rom and is super smooth and stable with good battery life. I am currently running cyanogen mod and love it, but it is more vanilla(non sense) based. When i was running Virtuous, it seemed as stable as the stock rom.

will they be upgraded to 2.3 or do I have to flash a whole new rom? thanks for all the help. I think im gonna start my own thread cuz In feel bad about asking ? in someone elses post

They will both be upgraded to gingerbread at some point, cyanogen will definitely be first because it is vanilla (no sense-AOSP) virtuous waits for an official release (or leak)

Anytime a ROM is updated you have to flash it. They aren't able to push an update to your phone. You have to do it yourself every time. Depending on how big of an update it is, you might be able to flash it over the old ROM and not have to do a full wipe. However, I would always do a backup and full wipe whenever I flash a ROM. It's just a good precaution.

So does anybody have a suggestions for a Gingerbread ROM? I know there are a few out there just wondering if anybody has tried any of them? I am ready to flash a new one and figured I would try 2.3 out.

Yep, there is absolutely NOTHING Sense-like about CyanogenMod... which is why I'm running it - that, and because there are TONS of goodies included that not every ROM has. I couldn't be happier with it.

I'm a little partial because I flashed ROMs like crazy with my OG... tried everything at least once that would run on it. CyanogenMod was always my favorite, and the one I always came back to.

As for Gingerbread, I'm gonna wait for a Gingerbread-based CyanogenMod before I mess with flashing one. Honestly, CyanogenMod is so good that even Gingerbread - right now - would be a huge step down for me. However, if I was still in experimental mode with ROMs, I'd probably be flashing the leaked versions already. ;)

I installed OMGB last night and for some reason I couldn't find any of my Titanium Backup Apps to install. When I opened up Titanium Backup, it showed 0's all the way down. I went back to Virtuous. Not a real fan of Vanilla anyway.

Installed Evervolv a couple versions ago, it was pretty trick. Both of them look like they could use a little tweaking still before i reload.

You need to flash gapps after flashing the rom.

I am runnign Gingerbread right now, but I agree with you about CyanogenMod. I loved that rom! I can't wait for a gingerbread cyanogen mod rom! LOL and it will probably be out long before any official update from verizon! I remember in my Eris days how long we had to wait for 2.2!

Im using omgb 5 and love it. It is missing a few things like functioning video camera and maybe gps, but they are things I can live without until I get around to flashing omgb6 or some other gingerbread rom. With setcpu I can get two days of standby time and 3-4 hours of hard gaming per full charge.

I am totally with you on this. Cyanogen is the most polished and feature-rich ROM I've tried yet. I was stuck on MIUI, but Cyanogen came through when MIUI started giving me problems. I haven't had one problem with Cyanogen since flashing. :D

just flashed OMGB... all i have to say is OMG!!

this is amazing. I never thought i would be able to be without sense (i just flashed to check it out).

this may be my new everyday rom :]
