Root GingerShedBread/GSB

Do you think it would all go away if we didn't use cache2cache?

Or should it work now that the updater-script is fixed?

Try it both ways. Install without cache2cache with a minimal load of apps. See if you get the errors when you install from the market.

Then do a Nandroid backup and flash cach2cache. Try to install a few apps from the market and see what happens.

If you have eStrongs or Root Explorer, removing xtrcache2cache is not all that hard after you run the test. Of course you could just Nandroid restore, but you just need to erase the file /system/etc/init.d/07cache2cache and restart the phone. You definitely want to do this only when you have enough room in /data for your apps plus their Dalvik cache, though, as it might get ugly after you restart and find that there isn't enough room in /data anymore. That's why running this test the way I explained earlier (with a minimal set of reinstalled apps) should be ok. And, of course, the Nandroid is good, too.

I've been meaning to do this but have been too lazy to do it yet. I may do it later, before I flash 1.9.

It may mean nothing until you can test with market updates - I was having more problems with those than with new app installs myself.

It's personally annoying to have to set everything back up everytime I flash an update. Also it still doesn't load all the apps saying low storage space. I'm back and forth between GSB and TasteyBread. I have to say I'm liking TasteyBread. No problems with it yet.

I just installed a couple apps without a hitch. One was a brand new app and the other was one I had uninstalled earlier. Of course, the only time I've had issues is during an app update. I'll just have to wait for one of those and see what happens...

I actually finally flashed xtrcache2cache over an existing 1.8 (which was flashed over a fresh 1.7 install) and so far I installed one app and had an app update itself, both with no problems.

A second app install? Failed - "Insufficient storage".

I'm going to go back to no xtrcache2cache and see what happens.

BTW, has anybody tried the Nook Android app? 17.1 MB when you install it? Are they freaking nuts? The Kindle app takes up about 6, the Google Books app even less.

"requested item could not be found" after google sign in, and has failed to install any of my google apps , just like the last three installs. halfway through app installs and its starting to crash out again with insufficient space (WITH c2c)

this is getting really old.

edit: finally settled down. I think half the problem is lp isn't running at high settings by defualt and it feels quite awful.

I got the same problem with or without cache2cache.

I've installed two apps now - one from the online market - no problems.

I'd say that if you are not having an issue with that other ROM, why not use that instead?

I do. When a update comes out I flash back to GSB install the update and flash back to tastybread and flash a update if it has one. I just don't understand why my phone is laggy on GSB.
I'm just trying to find the one rom that I can stay with awhile.

I just added another new app from the market on 1.9 and finally got to do an update for an existing app. Both worked just fine. Perhaps the issue got solved in 1.9.

I'll be sure to let you know if I experience the update issue again. So far, so good.

I wonder if you're low on memory. That can cause lag issues. I force everything I can to SD, except for the things that need to be on the phone to run properly, but those are few and far between.

GSB (with xtrcache2cache) gives me more space than I've ever had before and it runs great, as long as I push everything onto SD, that is.

Right now I'm on TastyBreadBuild. I have a total of 47 apps, settings>about phone>mem info>44mb avail/190mb total, TB>internal-167mb(114 free), SD card-7.96gb (5.81gb free), settings>applications>storage use>internal storage-42mb used-117mb free, running services>ram-70mb used-95mb free.

I just rooted and flashed GSB for the first time. I rebooted my phone after flashing it and it sat there for ten minutes...then the white htc screen flashed on...then it has been black ever since. Should I pull the battery? I dont wanna mess up the install. all help is appreciated.

Try it again. Make sure you wipe, wipe+dalvik, flash GSB, flash gsapps, flash cache2cache, in that order. Also format sd card if you didn't first, back it up to pc if you want anything on it.

I just updated another old app and it had no issues at all. I'm thinking 1.9 fixed the failed update bug.

No luck the second time, I didnt flash cache2cache though. Is that a recquirement? and Does the formatting of the sd card matter? Im worried cause if I flash the ROM and it doesnt work I wont be able to get to the zips cause they will be wiped off

No the cache2cache is not required but it gives more room. The format is required, although I'm not sure it will stop the rom from flashing. Might as well format, just do it in recovery, then flash after that.

Did you do a nand backup? If you format your sd card you'll lose everything. If you have anything on it you want then back it up on your computer. I've never needed to format my card. What method did you use to root with? Tell us how you went about rooting and then flashing GSB. You don't have to flash cache2cache but some do. When you flash GSB, you have to flash Gapps immediately after, before you reboot. Let us know how that's going.

1.8 did the same thing for me after 3 wipes. 1.8.1 worked fine. haven't tried 1.9 yet.

I bet that you are trying to flash version 1.8.1. There is a known bug that prevents a proper flash if you are coming from a 2.1 ROM. Since you mention seeing the white HTC screen, that sounds like precisely what is happening.

Try version 1.9 instead.

The format is only "required" if you ever flashed a Froyo ROM. If you never had a Froyo ROM on the phone, you will be all set.

Rather than format the card, you could restart in Recovery, connect the phone to your PC using a USB cable, and select the USB-MS menu option. This will connect the phone's SD card to your computer as an external disk drive. Make sure that your computer is set to show hidden files and folders and then delete the folder called ".android_secure" from your card (note the period at the start of the folder name). You should only have this folder if you ever installed and ran a Froyo or Gingerbread ROM. When you have finished deleting the folder, eject the drive from your computer and press the trackball on the phone to re-connect the SD card to your phone.

^this is that i did rather than formatting my sd card. seemed to work fine, and not nearly as time consuming as backing up the sd card and formatting it.

I just updated another old app. As far as I can tell, 1.9 has apparently fixed the app update problem without having to do a full wipe. All I did was wipe Dalvik and flash the normal 3 files over 1.8.1.

Yep, I tried xtrcach2cache and the market is working just fine.

I just jumped aboard GB for the first time. Flashed the GSB 1.9 [CM7]. My initial thoughts: Wow, this is slower than what I came from (Cyanogenmod-Nonsensikal Froyo[V16.1]-Black&Blue). Now I know Worksheds Roms are winners since in my short time of a Rooted Eris I have run FroShedYo V10 Red Glass and FroShedYo V11. This is my third Workshed Rom. I like it, I'm going to keep it and theme it (I really love that Dark Horse theme I was reading about), so.......is there something I haven't done or something I should do to speed it up. It lags.
Examples: When I hit the phone icon, the screen goes to a black screen and stays that way for a few secs before the dialer appears. When a call comes in it rings at least twice before the screen that tells me who is calling comes up. Keyboard seems slow.
I did a data wipe 3x followed by a Dalvik wipe 3x. I raised my CPUBOOST to a minimum of 480. What else should/can I do? Thanks in advance.
