i have to agree! first impressions are this is defaintely the best one yet on my lil buddy. almost no lag at all! app drawer opens and closes smoothly,as do the apps ive opened.

i hope it stays this way also :cool:
 
I was reluctant to flash 2.5 because I just flashed 2.4 last week, but I went ahead and bit the bullet. It seems quite a bit faster than 2.4 and so far, I haven't had any problems with any apps or anything. I've also just been flashing directly over after doing a Dalvik wipe.
 
2.5 is the first version of GSB with CM7 release candidate 4, which the CM team is calling the last RC before the first official stable release of CM7.
 
I flashed GSBv2.5 this morning and just finished re-installing my apps, time to play around!

First impression is :D

I'm thinking that it's cache2cache that is doing it. I quit flashing cache2cache in version 2.1 and didn't have that problem at all until this morning, I flashed it when I flashed v2.5. I had 2 updates and they both failed the first time. I've thought about getting rid of it and I'm assuming that to do that, I would need to reflash v2.5 and gapps and then reboot.

I used c2c on one version and then when I flashed the next version I didn't flash c2c and did a clean install, set everything back up, and been flashing over since. No problems other than the dialer but I think 2.5 fixed that.
 
I generally do better with cache2cache when I flash without it first, restart the phone and run the initial setup (I never login with my google account at initial setup, to prevent automatic install of apps), install an app or two, and then restart in Recovery and flash cache2cache.

Instructions to remove cache2cache are right in the first post of the thread.

Since it only adds 1 file all you need to do is delete the /system/etc/init.d/07cache2cache file and reboot your phone. One could use adb or RootExplorer (or similar) file manager.

I have had no problems with flashing chache2chache before rebooting:



  • [*]Full wipe of data+dalvik+cache...
    [*]Flash GSB...
    [*]Flash gapps package...
    [*]Flash cache2cache...
    [*]Reboot phone...

I also skip signing into my google account during setup. I prefer do to that after I set up a few things.

I did a clean install this time, although I think I messed up formatting the SD card. I think I just "deleted" everything on it. In the recovery menu under "wipe" it had the option to "partition", but I wasn't sure if that is what I wanted lol.
So I just did an "Erase SD card" from the regular menu:

settings >> storage >> erase sd card

Oh well, better than nothing :)

The problem that I have is that I start getting "not enough space" error messages when I update apps in the market if I flash c2c before starting the phone for the first time. Getting even one app on first, and then flashing c2c, seems to be better with installing apps from the market.

It's possible that this is fixed in 2.5, though.
 
Again, I think I'm going to hold tight until the full release of CM7 at this point. 2.2 is good enough that I'll be fine until that's done.
 
Nonsensikal 16.1 to GSB 2.2 with no problems (a week ago), and last evening did the jump to 2.5, after wiping. I suppose I have an hour or two before it'll be necessary to do it again.

But today my battery died early. Normally I have a third or better remaining at the end of a day, but on 2.5 I started the morning about 6am with a green light and it needed charging by 3pm. An average day, and nothing's different as far as I can tell, so... ???
 
I'm thinking of making the jump to GSB. Can someone please tell me what the total RAM footprint (including "data" but excluding "cache") is for Google Maps? My total footprint for Google Maps using KaosFroyo 37 is nearly 11MB. I think that this might improve with a ROM based upon a newer version of Google Maps, such as GSB.

Since RAM is the key resource for me (since I have a lot of apps that I don't want to part with), this will help me decide whether to upgrade to GSB (or not).

Google Maps is 10.75MB (9.36MB App + 1.39MB Data). I just flashed GSBv2.5 this morning actually.

Overall with this ROM though I have more free space then ever with more apps than before.
 
Has anyone else had issues with apps running slow with GSBv2.5? Not loading the apps, but the actual loading of the information in the apps. Even when i'm connected to wifi it is super slow.
 
make sure you give it some time. the first few minutes will be espeically slow and laggy as everythintg resyncs. id give the phone a day or so to get use to gingerbread before you decide its not running right ;) you also might read thru the threAd and try some of the different reccomended settings and see if any of them change anything for you.

There's a new setting that has something to do with purging memory. Can anyone offer a good explanation of it and when we might want to enable it?
