Root GingerShedBread/GSB

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. This ROM will be CyanogenMod, non-Sense going forward. As nobody has fully solved Sense on Froyo yet, it may be a while before we see anything like Sense on Froyo or GB, if we ever do.

There is seriously not much wrong with xtrSENSE (though it doesn't like me for some reason), and what's added/better in GSB is so minor, really, you'll be fine with xtrSENSE. Unless, of course, it decides to send reminders for your calendar events hours after it's supposed to, as xtrSENSE does to me...

Lol, I just can't leave well enough alone, though. xtrSense is working great for my wife's phone and she doesn't care how it works -- just that it DOES work. Perhaps I should just leave it alone.

I bought a droid incredible to go with my droid X. There is so much more going on with CM7 vs. what I can do with my X, I'm selling my X. I just love tweaking. :)

What is the difference between these two downloads?

GSB.v2.8-CM7.0-signed.zip
GSB.v2.8-CM7.0-signed.zip.md5sum

I'm the guy who thought this could become a hobby rather than a tool. But this morning, despite the fact that 2.7 was running perfectly and LauncherPro was set up precisely as I like it, I flashed 2.8.

It's more of a sickness, and it's contagious.

In the past, I've wiped BOTH Dalvik and Data, then had to rebuild a lot. This time, per advice above, I wiped only Dalvik and installed over the previous edition of GSB. Worked fine.

this is so weird, i just downloaded GSB on Wednesday i think, and all i found on XDA was 2.5 download link. so would i have to wipe, or could i flash over it?

GSB.v2.8-CM7.0-signed.zip
GSB.v2.8-CM7.0-signed.zip.md5sum

the top one is the download for the rom. the bottom one is the download for an md5 sum.

after you download both of them, use a file verifier on your pc or an app like scary aliens AFV(android file verifier) on your phone to compare the md5 of the rom download to the md5 listed inthe second download.

hope that makes sense :)

GSB.v2.8-CM7.0-signed.zip.md5sum

The second zip file (md5sum) gives you the checksum for the first file (the ROM), so you can make sure your download was intact and the file is not corrupted.

EDIT: See above, Scotty beat me to it :)

so we should flash both?

no... you dont flash the second one at all. its just for reference. open it on your pc and see what the number is. :)

this is in place of listing the download and md5 on the post on the thread.... its prolly easier for him to keep it current and updated since he only has to add the links to the one spot. all other threads hes got simply link to it.

Do a Nandroid backup (just in case)
Wipe Dalvik
Flash GSB
Flash Google apps
(optional) if you ever flashed cache2cache, or want to, flash that as well
Restart the phone

Try out all of your apps, try sending a text message, try sending out an email, try calling your phone, try to make a call. If everything seems to work, your're fine. If not, go back into Recovery and start over, with:

Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Dalvik
Flash GSB
Flash Google apps

-or-

Nandroid Restore what you had before if you want to delay going through setting everything up from scratch.

Scotty (and anyone else) after flashing 2.8 you will need to reinstall.:)

speakin of that app,bc... there was an update to it today on my TB. i updated it,and now it works on the TB too

those if ya that havent used it,you should. its cool... unless you just really like the skateboarding CM guy :p

Has anyone had odd readings from your sdcard? Titanium and Root Explorer are both telling me that my card is practically full, or full despite not having much on there. Just last week I moved most nand backups I had to my computer, so I only have one or two on there. Could this be something with the new sdcard tweak? I'll have to check to see if there is anything unusually large on there later today. I might also restore my last nand of 2.7 and see if that changes anything. Or maybe I'll do a second clean flash of 2.8.

No but my keyboard has been acting stupid. When I'm typing, numbers will pop up instead of letters sometimes. Anyone else see this.

Loving this so far EXCEPT Mixzing stutters a lot on playback. I increased the buffer size in Mixzing and that didn't help. I also found a thread on another board where somebody said the problem was that compression was enabled in the DPS Settings app. I went into that and couldn't find a compression setting, or how to turn it off.

Has anybody else had a similar problem?

Eris with GSB 2.8
2.6 worked great, but the grass is always greener.

The transition to 2.8 was painless, and it seems fine in all respects EXCEPT that an incoming call doesn't ring on my BT headset. Conversation is perfect, media is fine, but the ring is absent. Unless I'm looking at the phone, I'll miss an incoming call.

I tried resets and re-pairs, with no improvements.

Or did I just fail some part of the Eris IQ test?

??

did you do an "update" or a fresh install? if the former,it might be worth doing the wipes and starting from scratch.

I'm such a noob that I don't know the difference. I wiped Dalvik but not data, is that it? For a "fresh install", what else must be erased? Perhaps the entire SD card?

If you can manage it, getting rid of the (hidden) .android_secure folder from your SD card (note that the name of the folder has a period at the beginning; that's what makes it hidden in a *nix OS like Android.) You can usually connect to the SD from your computer in Recovery (when cabled) by using the USB-MS menu item. This will mount the SD card to your PC; from there, if you have it set to show hidden files and folders, you should be able to see that folder. Just delete it. When you are done, dismount from your PC (like you were getting ready to take out a thumb drive) and then press the trackball on the phone to go back to the menu.

Or, don't bother. I've only done this once, to see if it would change that "insufficient space" error when trying to install apps from the market, and it made no difference at all.
