I think what you did is what Scotty meant by Update. A fresh install would be wiping data/factor reset and dalvik. Correct me if I'm interpreting you incorrectly Scotty.

This is a feature, not a bug. If you press any of the top row keys for more than a fraction of a second, it enters the corresponding number. The numbers appear in the top row but are very hard to see.
Hmmm it only started with this version. I know about the top numbers. It hasn't done it lately tho.
I haven't used the stock keyboard in a long time.

another question is what are your preferred setcpu sttings for the eris running this rom?
i currently have my high end set up on demand at 710/(low end) 528??

yep,that is exactly what i meant
for a fresh install you wipe data/cache/dalvic cache and the flash GSB,then gapps.doing it this way requires you to re-aquire all your apps(from titanium,or re-download),and re-setup all your homescreens,ringtones and alerts,etc.
but it does sometimes do wonders when small prollems remain.i like to flash over too,but when you have prollems definately try a fresh install before blaming the rom to be bad.
oh,and you defaintely do NOT need to reformat or wipe your sd card between roms. unless you have been using a rom that had an "apps2sd" partition,but ive never used that,so i cant give details on it. froyo and GB like an unpartitioned,FAT32 card.
i have deleted this folder as well and experienced the same(nothing) so while it certainly doesnt hurt to do it,im not sure it helps,either
i think the only time when it might be a good idea is when coming from a froyo rom to a gingerbread rom. in this situation i guess it may help the new rom be a little less confused
I've been noticing that battery life seems worse with the last couple of versions, yes. That said, my battery is 15 months old, so maybe it's getting on...
Seriously, I had also added a couple of widgets to my home screens, and my thought is the widgets were doing some of the draining.

not IMO. lots of folks like the stock HTC_IME alot,but i personally hate it. i got used to vanilla android on my droid 1,and am quite used to that keyboard. whenever i try and use the stupid HTC keyboard i am constantly hitting the "keyboard down" key trying to switch to the numbers keyboard
since thats exactly where the button is,if it were the stock froyo or GB keyboard.when on the HTC keyboard, i also really miss the smilie key present on the froyo/gb keyboard. minor differences,i know,but it fustrates the crap out of me when i want a number or symbol and i tap that button and the keyboard disapears 
you should try swype. its pretty slick. if you get good at it,you can swype text really fast. i dint use it all the time,but its defaintely fun to play with and use on occasion. ill go thru spurts where ill use it for awhile and then go back. main reason i personally dont use it all the time is the simple fact that sometimes its easier to hold the phone and type with your thumbs,rather than the way that you have to hold the phone with one hand and swype with the other
but you should try it. just go to the link above on your phones browser(not skyfire) and follow the directions

For best battery life, I find that 245/604 runs fine, with the smartass governor. I guess if you have issues with smartass, the ondemand is next best.
Swiftkey is a fantastic keyboard that has an excellent prediction engine. I can send a text message to my son like this: "I'll pick you up in 5 minutes" by pressing "I", choosing "I'll" from the list of three choices, the "p", choose "pick", choose "you" (which is one of the choices after I chose "pick"), choose "up" (ditto), choose "in" (ditto), type "5" space, then "mi" and choose "minutes". I save so much time and aggravation with this keyboard.
I am faster with Swype by tapping at the keys than by trying to Swype. I spent a day or two trying to Swype and it was incredibly frustrating. I just don't have the muscle memory of dragging a finger across a keyboard like I do tapping at one.

I gave GSB the old college try for about two weeks and I just had too many issues with it. It ran way slower and less stable then XTRSense and I saw no real improvement over 2.1. Happily back on XTRsense again.
Yeah. I switched from Swype to Swiftkey a few months ago and LOVE it! The predictive engine works so well that I only have to enter about 1/3 as many keys as I would with a typical keyboard. Once it learns the phrases you typically use, it will predict how the rest of the sentence goes, making it a lot less work.
I just did a fresh install (with a factory reset) to 2.8, now that CM7 is finalized, and it's SO MUCH FASTER than 2.7 or any of the previous versions and less buggy.
I'm sure that most of it has to do with the factory reset I finally decided to do, since I've been installing over the top of previous versions every time. The difference is night and day!

i just downloaded the swiftkey trial. its not predicting anything,but i havent looked hard at it,i dont know if theres a setting i dont have checked,or if its just part of the paid version. im not in the habbit of using the predictive options on any of the keyboards,but i do like the layout. i hate the white color ,but the 123 key is on the correct side(for me ),and the , and ? are both out on the main screen,and i dig the way when you push the 123 key,all the numbers are on the left side. only thing im lacking is smilie key ill be getting the paid version and letting it stay around for awhile.

Did you just go into settings->keyboards and activate it, or did you load the app from the app drawer to go through the entire setup? Part of the setup is to load the dictionary for the language of your choice. That may help if you missed that step.
i hate the white color
They are late in the beta stage of the next version and that is black by default, with white as an option.

where do i get this beta version? i havent looked in the market yet,but im assuming whats there is not beta. if it were black,it would be almost perfect

ERIS+BT+GSB worked perfectly until a few days ago, and it still does -- with one exception.
An incoming call no longer rings in my Bluetooth headset. I now have the phone set to ring, so I know to answer, but the problem persists in two different BT headsets. Those headsets work properly with another non-Eris phone, and worked with this one two weeks ago.
I wiped everything including the SD card and did a clean install. GSB is terrific, but the problem is very annoying. Could it be GSB? Phone hardware? The weather?

I installed SwiftKet last night and installed the language pak but have'nt tried it yet. I also did a fresh install of 2.8 so I guess today willl be the test to see if that will solve a couple of issues I've been having.
