Root Gingersteem Extreme ROM Questions (Noobie)

Hey guys. I have an LG esteem ZVC (metro pcs) and I rooted it the first day I got it. I am a software developer (SQL) so I am definately a tech geek and I was not going to have a phone that I couldn't be the admin of. LOL! So I rooted it fine and for a few months didn't do anything except remove some bloat and that all seemed to work fine. I am not familiar with alot of the terminology like deodexing and that stuff, but I didn't ruin it anyway, so thats good! So last week I wanted to try installing a ROM. I installed the gingersteem extreme II. I did it fine and followed instructions well, and it loaded and worked fine. Now, I am getting force closes and freezing on everything all the time. Even the dam alarm clock. It does weird things like the keyboard floating around and big delays while typing. Apps freez constantly and so on and so on. Is this something I did, or is this normal territory for installing roms? Is there somethingI can do to fix? Should I re-install (and if so how), or is there a better ROM? I really liked everything about the ROM, and give props to the developer. I am sure it is either my phone, or something I did. Can anyone give me some advice?

Did you wipe data, dalvik, and cache before flashing? Also I format data cache and system for safe measure.

I did it like the instructions said too, and yes that included what you said. Except the formatting. Followed a video tutorial.

So if I just follow the instructions in the link on upgrading to zvd it will basically be like a fresh started root? Its so bad I can't even type without it freezing. Almost unusable, and progresively geting worse.

You will have to re root. It will be like you just bought the phone from metro. Make sure you do a factory reset after your done though, The upgrade doesn't reset anything.

But my suggestion is UPGRADE. And do it quickly. lol. C sucks.

welcome to AF. I concur; DO upgrade to ZVD. And Yes these problems can come with this whole ROM territory. A clean install will work wonders.

So I have a zvb rooted with gingersteem and plague..can I just do the update to zvd via the lg tool or do I need to restore my stock rom before updating..? thanks in advance

Well yes. Once you get to zvd you can go ahead and root and then install rom manager so you flash CWM . After that you ready to rock #2.5 rom .

For the kernel ... you indeed can install different kernel but you have to make sure the kernels are for your given firmware. In this case zvd.
