Root GingerSteem Market Problem

nicksinz

Newbie
I flashed gingersteem extreem and for many of my favorite apps in the market it said that it wasn't compatible with my phone. Then I tried these steps

clear Data for Google Services Framework then going to Market erasing Cache FIRST then Data, reboot

now i can't even connect to the market. It just says "server error" retry. I like gingersteem but if i can't get the market to work im going back to stock Rom. Any ideas?

Hmmm. I don't see why the ROM would be affecting Market. What I would do is try flashing the ROM again and do a clean instal. Sucks but at least that rules out if it is the ROM.

Data for Google Services Framework is more than just the market.

A. sometimes sd card problem..can you swap it out, or at least format it or test it on a pc?
Just in case it applies to you, with this new phone's better storage, i don't move any apps to sd, they run faster when on phone anyhow.
B. does this 'also' occur on wifi?
C. have you tried temporarily disabling any security app-- lookout, avg, etc.?

If not, then I have the same issue.

1. Firstly, as to the network error-- "for me" it's only temporary, usually after not using the phone for awhile,...which i've attributed to the inherent nature of the new kernel / rom to conserve battery.
This holds true for any type of surfing too, and it's a tradeoff i willingly accept.

You can usually tell when the status bar 4G icon is missing, or is present but the arrows don't show activity either way.
Usually all it takes is retrying / refreshing any internet activity.
When that doesn't work, toggling airport mode(quickest way from the status bar) off & on does the trick.

Semi-related: when stuck at one of the lower network settings, How to enable/disable 4G mode with Any Cut
comes in very handy.

2. As far as the apps themselves, an alternate market like appbrain or amazon usually does the trick.
FYI those two are incompatible-- they don't recognize an app installed from each other & will try to remove & reinstall, even when no update necessary.
Barring that, one can always try the clunky workaround of manually downloading the apk in question.

This highlights Android's dire need for a batch auto updater. (even appbrain's too slow & buggy)

I don't have the network error any more. i can get into the market but some apps are still not compatible. I have a brand new external sd card i bought yesterday and this is the second time i installed this ROM onto this phone. its the stock gingersteem extreem ROM with no extra apps installed. I manually added the apk to my phone but when I open the apk in astro it doesnt have an install button.

Hhhmmmm.....I normally download with Opera(it's fassstttt!) because it works so seamlessly(for me). Just like with windows, it prompts to save...when done, selecting Install prompts open with...& Package Installer finishes the job.
PS I've installed APK Installer

Had the same issue. Download an LCD Density app and set your density to 240 pixels, reboot and profit!

One of the first things I did was change the LCD density to 240 with rom toolbox but still didn't work. I flashed the LD-I'Ve rom and the market works But the room itself isn't as stable as the extreem. If anyone else has any ideas let me know. Thanks

Changing the LCD density should have fixed it, did you clear your market cache and data after applying the density change and rebooting?

When I clear the market data and cache I can't open up the market at all. It says "server error:retry" then after a few minutes I am able to open market but there's still many apps that are incompatible

This is from another post made by epayne123 (copy>paste is faster) I would do the process over exactly as stated:

Once rebooted into GSE if you are going to keep it, go into ROM Toolbox, scroll over to Performance, select "build.prop Tweaks" and change LCD Density to 240(Nothing More And Nothing Less), go to Setting -> Applications -> All
Select Market and Clear Cache(FIRST) and then Clear Data(Second). Clear those IN ORDER! Then reboot and you will be all good to go.

Yes, GSF is for more than just the market but it's okay because all you do is Clear Cache from in there so it isn't a big deal. It doesn't affect anything that could pose a problem or threat if Cache is cleared but when just cleaning the Market Cache then Data after LCD Density is set right doesn't fix your problem then this is the next tier of fixes.

I reflashed the gingersteem rom changed the lcd density and rebooted and now the market works. Not sure why it didnt work the first two times i tried these steps but hopefully it keeps working. thanks for the help everyone

I have GSE rom booted and I tried the above to get AppBrain to install with no luck. Anybody have any ideas?
I'm doing a backup and will restore stock rom and try it (but I got so used to GSE).

Thanks

Welcome to AF calbigguy wat sw version are you on zvb, b, c

I believe I am still on ZVB
Yes I was on ZVB, then I install GSE rom and it was working great, but it would let me install AppBrain market app.
I just restored a previous backup (back to stock) and AppBrain will now install, but I want to go back to GSE2 (i did a backup) because of all my texts and emails are there.

Any ideas??
Has anyone else had this problem??
(when I tried to install AppBrain (and something else a while back) it said my phone (ms910) is an incompatible device, WTF?)

Thanks

Download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolbox
And go into performance-buildprop.tweaks-make sure the LCD density is set to 240.
Reboot when prompted and try to download Appbrain again.

Hey, gbiggie, you helped me before with a diff issue.
So I say this with tongue-in-cheek, shame on you for not reading my previous post. :) I did set me LCD density to 240 already and rebooted to no avail.
Is that all you would have me do with the liberty toolbox? (do I need it for anything else?)

Do you have any other/more ideas? I do appreciate your help.
Thanks.

{edit} sorry Gbiggie, I didn't actually say I set my LCD Dens to 240, but I did do that. :)

{edit #2) Everybody disregard everything I said. It works now. I don't know why. (freakin phones!)
LOL :)

Nothing else I can think of-I tried downloading it and it worked fine on my side.
See you didn't do the LCD afterall :p
