Root Gingervillian 2.0 is out

Seems fine so far, no fix for the notifications area bug though as mentioned above

By "notifications area bug" are you talking about the date not showing up on the left side when you pull down the notification bar? Because if so mine is working again with 2.0, though it wasn't under 1.9

No, I meant the bug that stopped the notification area opening properly when you set LPP to open notifications with the home button

Damn it. I was hoping that the 2.0 would fix this irritating notification bug....:(

This is all I see in Changelog:
Version 2.0:
Update to CM 7.0 release (thanks to CM Team)

Yeah as far as I can see, all that's been added is tablet options giving you the option to put the status bar at the bottom and disable the lock screen

No offence to the devs, they are unpaid after all but wouldn't it make more sense to fix bugs before adding new features?
Or at least bug fix while adding new features.
I.E - new tablet options but notification bar still bugged and no lock/unlock sounds in zip to name two.

But if you put the status bar at the bottom you can use the home key to show/hide notifications in LauncherPro

Oh, the irony....

I prefer to do it through recovery, but then I'm usually flashing a couple of other things at the same time anyway, and often take a nandroid before flashing, all of which I'd be doing from recovery anyway.

Otherwise, Villain Setup usually works - I've had 2 occasions when it's failed to install a mod and I've had to do it again, but no other problems.

Well if CM / RT dont know about the bug...

I've seen little of this bug, and pretty much all I have seen is on this forum. If Richard missed a post on XDA or no one brought it to the attention of the CM team, its possible it wont get fixed.

It may be worth someone who knows about this bug trying cm7 to see if it is reproducable.

Richard may not have seen the bug because it depends how you use the phone as to whether you see the bug or not.

For example, I use swipe gestures to show / hide the status bar and do not have a problem so I only have your word for it (which of course I believe) that this bug exists. Same with many bugs I see reported.

I decided to use the workaround of showing status bar on swipe rather than notification bar so I can move to GV2.0 ;)

I prefer that method myself. I use home for something else. Well its original use.

I tried home for status bar a couple of times and just didnt like it.

I have 2 docks. 1 with invisible icons and set swipe on all 5 of those.

Then on the dock with visible icons, just the app drawr swipes for status.

Is it worth flashing the ManU kernel for battery or does GV2.0 default kernel do just as good a job?

I typically find the battery better on the Eviollet (HAVS-AXI-CFS) kernels than the stock although i can't definitively say this is true for 2.0 as i pretty much flashed straight to Eviollet this time round. What i will say though is that battery life seems to be better on 2.0 with Eviollet than on 1.9.

Has anyone else with a simialr set up noticed this or am i just seeing a placebo effect from flashing a new update ;)

Well like you I don't actually use this setting, but I was getting frustrated with my work so did a little playing. Conclusions are:

1) It's in the CM7 release as well.
2) It's been fixed in CM7 nightly 39.

So we can safely assume that the fix will appear in GV in due course.

Oh, and flicking down the notifications is faster in CM7 nightly 39 than in the release or GV 1.9/2.0. :)

But I'm restoring back to GV now...

Thanks, good news :)
That means I'll be able to go back to swiping notifications rather than status bar which is more elegant.
