Root GingerVillian *possible* problems?

I'll say first off *possible* because im not 100% sure if its just my network (UK Three) or if its GV itself.

Basically saturday I was able to check in via facebook (official app) and also upload pics via the mobile....but now today, sunday, I cant do either on 3G but CAN on Wifi..

like I said, both parts were working fine on saturday via 3G but now not and I can't figure out really why, I mean the APN settings seem fine and the internet is running correctly.

Its the latest 1.6.4 version of facebook as well.....and yes I just checked again and its allowing things fine via wifi.

Also is their anyway to sync facebook calendar with the stock GB calendar? as I can't see fb birthdays no more when with Sense Rom I could....is there anyway to sync this with GV or was it a sense thing?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now this is a bit different but I didn't fancy making another thread for it..

the latest Miui ROM...

what EXACTLY do I need to install for this ROM? as I have had a look over at XDA....but it is so confusing with SO many links for downloads for ROM's and extras etc...

what do I need for *JUST* the basic?

For the first part, no idea, I'm afraid, my face is bookless...

For MIUI, it depends which version you want - click here and you can choose from A2SD, D2ext OR D2W flavours. Each is the full rom, latest version.

I'm using the a2sd version and it's rock solid (touch wood) - some folks seem to love the D2EXT one, but I'm not bothered about Quadrant scores and all that malarkey. :D

well I'd go with the A2SD version....its just there's also *SO* much on that XDA thread its all confusing...with lockscreens and themes and all that malarky

sounds like a network issue with 3 if you ask me. i have seen it where the device just broks its apn config for no reason and when you look at it it appears normal.
try going into apn's then in the part where it shows the list, press menu and click reset default

resort the apns and try again.

facebook does not intergrate to default GB calender. im pretty sure this was a sense feature due to the friends stream widget

I already tried a default restore for apns an it did nothing..what's weird is 3g IS working but not for check ins or pic uploading to fb. But everything else works lol

i have a problem with my phone, i charged it last night and then put it under my pillow once i took it off charge... i woke up this morning and the phone will not turn on i have took out the battery/sim/sd card etc... but still nothing... the is no led indicator when charging now and i forgot to update the phone this last couple of days... please help ive had this phone about 2 weeks only!!

Well a quick update..

I deleted the APN settings this time and ran another default restore after facebook REFUSED completely to even go online via 3G but yet the market was working, things were updating and installing and my browser was working fine...but no facebook..

but again via wifi, everything was running fine an dandy again...hell I even uninstalled and reinstalled facebook to see if it might be my version then that was corrupt...but nope same problem..

My other half also has the new version of facebook which is 1.6.4 and she was getting on it with no problems...shes running a stock 2.2 wildfire and on the same network as me (UK Three), so it leads me to believe it *HAS* to be a problem with GingerVillian 2.8..

I've exhausted all other means right now...its almost like theres a firewall stopping facebook from working, but I don't have anything like "Droidwall" installed and theres nothing by default in GV so it can't be that..

now it all works again...I didn't even do anything :\

this couldn't of been a facebook issue as like I said, my other half is running same version and same network 100% fine....and its not my 3G as the net was working fine cept for those certain things...

the hell?!?!

I think im just going to ignore it....its fixed....somehow...

umm....good job helping everyone? lol

cant be the rom if it just fixed itself
either a facebook bug or network issue
could be a different proxy root your assigned ip was using on the phone network

if it was network issue why was it kinda working? or is that the point lol

sorry just I prefer if problems make things *totally* not work, rather than part work to a point you can't figure it out straight forward lol

cos its a network. if you know anything about networking then you will understand that just cos its connected and somethings work it doesnt mean that others do.
prime example is when your isp has issues, you can connect, you can reach things via ip, you can even go to some sites however most sites you visit via url will time out as the dns records are not being returned thus your computer/device does not know where to find what you are requesting.
The same can happen on mobile networks, all traffic on apn's for mobile networks goes through a few proxies. this is to monitor traffic, compress and optimise, child protection etc.
it is likely that the ip assigned to your simcard when connecting was running through a proxy that had dns issues and couldnt connect to certain sites.
when they clear the problem it will automatically be fixed for all people going through that proxy.
not all devices on the same network go through the same routes. this is internet traffic
this makes complete sense to your problem and why its just resolved itself

yea resolved...as it was working again fine when I was out earlier..

its funny cos its not a feature I use really at all....I just was annoyed I COULDN'T use it lol

lol i get that all the time. fact it doesnt work annoys you and makes you want to get it working.
its the inner techie in you

ok Im gonna tag this on the end...no point making a new thread..

THIS IS REALLY P*SSING ME OFF >.<

why can't GV 2.8 KEEP MY DAMN RINGTONE!!

everytime I selected any tone it would refuse to keep them and just stay STUCK with a ringing phone tune....which wasn't THAT bad..but I wanted to change and it wouldn't let me...well it WOULD change but would never ring with a changed tune..just the 'ringing phone' tune..

this is the reason I flashed MIUI on there...but have since gone back....

I reflashed my nandroid backup....and the ringtone problem is there....so I reflashed a clean (slightly cut version of GV with some apps taken out) version of GV 2.8 back over the top...wiped the dalvik cache to see if that will help....

and does it?

no....NOW it doesn't play with the 'ringing phone' tune....but now...a track from the first folder in my music...which is NOWHERE near my ringtone installed folder..

seriously...help :(

I dont *REALLY* want to have to wipe fully and reflash (though I know if I *HAVE* to then I will...I just dont want to lol)

UPDATE:

I just tried deleting the music album that the new 'ringtone' was playing from....and surprise surprise....I now have NO RINGTONE AT ALL PLAYING....even if I try selecting a default in GV..

this is REALLY getting on my nerves now :(

Not neccessarily, but a fresh download wont hurt. It could just have been a bad flash. May aswell cover both bases at once.

right...fresh download over the top didn't do anything..so now full wipe and reflash....*sulks* :D

*snip*

all sorted....wiped and reflashed....now installing mostly everything again...uggghh
