Gmail contacts not syncing with Samsung Epic 4G

Always include:

Device: Samsung EPIC 4G
Carrier: Sprint
Country / Language: English
OS / Browser / build number (if applicable): Android 2.0

I noticed that my contacts settings are set to sync automatically, but there are no contacts on my gmail account. When I do a manual sync, they still do not show up on my gmail account. I've confirmed that I'm using the same gmail account; I only have one. How do I sync the contacts on my phone with my gmail account?

If I understand you question correctly, you need to set your contacts up as google contacts.

How do I do that? Is this done in my gmail account or on my phone? Either way, what are the steps?

Currently I have all "sync" buttons selected on my phone. But nothing is coming through on my gmail account.

Cover the basics:

* Menu - Settings - Accounts & Sync:
Background data and auto-sync checked;
under your gmail account: make sure Sync contacts is checked

* Contacts App - Menu - Display Options:
Under your gmail account: make sure the contact group you're trying to sync is checked. "My Contacts" is usually checked, but you must make sure your contacts are under this group in gmail. If you imported your contacts from another email account into gmail, they're usually imported under "All Contacts" and you have to manually move them to the "My Contacts" group in gmail.

After you have the basics above covered, try a manual sync at "Contacts - Menu - Accounts - Your Gmail Account - Menu - Sync Now"

The sync icon should spin and update the date/time after it's done. If the date/time updates, the sync is working as designed, and if you contacts updates are still not being sent to google, they might be not created under the gmail account on the phone and you might need to delete and recreate them under the gmail account.

Now, if the sync icon stops spinning and the date/time never updates, you might have an issue with one or more of your contacts fields.

SOLVED .......whenever I add a contact and get to the "Save contact to" option, I must choose "google" not "phone". Thanks everyone.
