Help Gmail Not Syncing

So this morning when I woke up, my phone showed that I had 2 emails. I didn't read them on my phone, I waited until I turned on my computer a few minutes later....and when I did, there were 10 unread emails. I checked my phone again, and it still only showed 2. So I refreshed it, and it showed all 10 emails.

I put the phone down and read all the emails on my computer. A while later, I picked up my phone and it still showed those same 10 emails as unread. I refreshed and it showed them all read.

I just picked up my phone and it's showing 2 unread emails....that I know I read several hours ago. As soon as I manually refresh it, it will show up.

I can't figure out what's up with it. I've noticed the little sync symbol a lot more frequently lately....but now it's not doing anything.

Any suggestions?

Query, if you go into Settings > Accounts and Sync > click on your gmail name, does it show a check next to Sync Gmail?

I know that when I do a fresh install/setup on my Droid this is the ONE check that doesn't automatically check itself, and it randomly seems to sync.

Since I checked this, I haven't had these problems since.

That worked for me.

How do you get a number of unread messages on the gmail icon?

She didn't say on the icon, she just said it showed X emails. You can d/l gmail unread count or SMS Unread Count from the market. Either of them will do what you want

I have gmail on my htc mail app doing push. I don't likle the gmail app and prefer the stock htc app to be honest but using exchange activesync with push has been a pain in the ass. Very often, it will be syncing but then all of a sudden it'll just stop syncing for no reason and then start up again randomly. Never understood why.

Yes.....I have that checked. That was one of the first things I checked actually, thinking somehow it may have gotten UNchecked. It had been working fine up until the last few days.

Correct....on both counts actually. I use the "Gmail Unread Count" app, so it was showing the count on the icon.....which has been wonky in the past, so I actually opened Gmail and found it to STILL show the 2 mails instead of 10, and then 10 instead of zero, like I described in my original post.

That's actually not an option I care to pursue anyway. I have a Gmail account that I use SPECIFICALLY because I have an Android phone. It's my primary email address, and I want my phone to work the way it's SUPPOSED to work.

Yeah....this really needs fixed. Woke up this morning....my phone says I have no new emails. Turn on my computer, I actually have 7 new emails. I can't be out and about and not getting my emails. This is not good. Does anyone have ANYTHING?????

And just like it started with no explanation, now it's back to syncing with no explanation. I've changed NOTHING. Quite bizarre.

I am starting to think this is a Google issue not a phone issue. Not only am I having the same problem with Gmail, I am also not getting the SMS reminders I set up on my Google Calendar. The lack of reminders seems to be a pretty widespread issue, there are a number of discussions about it on various message boards. Maybe Google is having trouble keeping up with all of the users and features?

I had this exact same problem 2 weeks ago. Checked all settings, battery pull, etc., nothing helped. Went on for 2 or 3 days then it just started syncing again and has been fine since.

Sometimes gmail has had this happen in the past. I had the same symptoms over the past couple weeks, I didn't change anything, now i get all my emails on the phone and it syncs properly when i read them. It is definitely on google's end.
