Help Gmail not syncing?

ckelly33

Android Expert
GMail isn't syncing automatically, although it is set to. I am set to sync mail, contacts, etc and inside of Gmail I am set to retrieve instantly.

It syncs my inbox fine if I sync manually

Anyone else having trouble this week?

I have been having the same issues this week
gmail wont sync unless I manually do it and it even erased my accounts 3 days ago.
I was thinking maybe there's something wrong with verizon but I called and everything is ok.

Please help

did you check by going to setting>acct&sync and make sure background and auto sync is checked and trying to refresh the google sync?

yes, it is checked.

Here is the (strange) advice that VZW gave me: Where the default is to load only the last 4 days of messages, change it to all. I thought it was ridiculous advice, but it has worked so far.

Unfortunately, I cannot remember how to get back to that setting...(!). I have to admit it has worked ever since.

wow what ever works right i guess lol have to just take a look around phone to see that setting lol

Having just changed my mail sync settings, I can actually tell you how to get there (took me a while to find them),
settings>accounts & sync>gmail>account settings>receive settings
Once there many options are available. Hope this helps :)

Well, now that you guys have dig around and found those settings, I can confirm that it does not work - at least not any longer. I KNEW that was to weird to be true!!

I've got email sitting in my Gmail inbox that's been there for almost 4 hours and a second for 2 hours, yet neither has made it over to my phone.

I had a similar problem, and only noticed it because mail was stuck in the outbox and constantly said it was sending. Tried rebooting the phone and it wouldn't start again. During this time, my inbox said that there were several new messages, but when I opened that folder, nothing came in. I think the phone was continuously trying to sync but couldn't.

Anyway, I eventually fixed it by going in to settings/applications/all, choosing gmail, and clearing the cache I think. Maybe it would be best to clear the data and the cache. That fixed it for me.

I have 8-10 emails not and nothing showing on the phone. They do so on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 though so it doesn't seem to be on Google's end.

Gonna give this a shot. However, I had no cache ('clear cache' button was greyed out). I did a force stop and cleared data then restarted the phone. The mail was seen immediately.

If this fix doesn't hold, I may try uninstalling Gmail then reinstalling.
