gmail vs. stock email client

What are the pros and cons of the two? I think I'm going to try the stock client for a bit to see how I like it...anything I should watch for?

One specific question I do have is this: in gmail there is a "download" button I can use to install apps sent to me by email. Does the stock client have this feature?

I have noticed that in the stock client I don't get a notification to show in the status bar when I receive new email even though I have it selected...is there more to it than that?
 
The notification issue seems to have resolved itself. Weird.

So no one has any insight to add on the differences between the two? :(
 
I like the gmail app for gmail access.

I use the stock email client for my Exchange account for work.

So far, this works well for me to keep work and personal stuff separate.

Thanks for the input! I only have one account on my phone, which is a gmail account. I like the look of the email client better so I just want to see if there are any pros and cons to consider.
 
I use the stock email for my corporate email account. The lag in it is terrible both for scrolling and typing out emails. Is this something that anyone else experiences and what would be an option to fix it?
 
I made my Gmail an account in the stock email, along with my Yahoo account. I never even went into the Gmail application. And yet I get two notifications for every Gmail email that comes in (they are depicted by different-looking icons), and the Yahoo notifications are very spotty and unpredictable.

default for gmail notifications is "on". you have to go into gmail and turn them off. then you will only get one notification in the status bar.

I had kept out of the Gmail app hoping to prevent the very thing that happened anyway as a default. I made the change you recommended, did a test, and only got one notification, fifteen minutes after it was sent, which is ok since I have it's set to check every fifteen minutes. But I wonder if the stock email Gmail "push" will now be as spotty as the Yahoo. I noticed that the non-stock email Gmail settings don't have an "Email check frequency". I assume from this that the emails get pushed as they arrive, which I think matches my experience.

I believe you are correct. I don't experience any lag or anything like that with mine. Very happy with it so far!
 
i gave up on the stock one a long time ago because of the issue with its notifications .. im unsure if that issue still even exists .. i instead set my email to auto forward to my gmail address which allows me to instantly receive it ... if i need to respond to an email i just log into my emails mobile site & write it out .. sounds like a bit much but majority of my mails r non response so it works out
 
What issue with notifications? Granted I only use it for Exchange mail, but I never had a notification problem. Would imagine if it was a common problem it would've been addressed in an update. The only "issue" that I know if is the signature one where you only have one signature across all accounts which still exists in 2.2.
 
you mean it polls for your emails every five minutes and you never get any even though they're showing up on your computer?
 
I know the gmail app doesn't show number of unread emails, but does the stock email? I think that's the nail in the coffin for myself. Then again, a giant like Google, you'd think the gmail app would have this included. Go figure.
