no gmail notifications icon other than top bar?

i finally gave up on the gmail stock app, due to never receiving notifications, which are supposed to be on the top status bar (i believe), and i deleted it since i am rooted.

anyway, i use the 2nd stock samsung email app. it has a zillion more settings and ui configurations, and it is much, much better, in my opinion.

why there are 2 email apps i will never know, except i know google had to force their's on us, but it is crap, and the reviews in market all complain of no notifications.

maybe try out the stock samsung email app and tell us if you like it better!

agreed, but there are 2 stock apps. do you mean the google gmail app, or the samsung email app?

Samsung email app ok but uses more battery.Five minute intervals work best for me keeping up and there where Samsung app hoggy,

the gmail app uses less than 1% battery per hour. the other email app might use more but the gmail app is MUCH more efficient

Being google jammin it down our throats (gmail) it should display unread email count as does messaging ans missed calls.

Gmail has always been great for me, on every device.

The gmail app is not jammed down our throats..in fact it needs to be installed on a new device. If anything, it's the stock email app that is forced on us. In any event the Gmail app is much better IMO than the stock email app. If notifications are not appearing, check the settings
