Help GNex making new notification sound for no apparent reason

Typically i keep my phone on silent and vibrate but lately I've had reason to leave the volume up more frequently to receive audible notifications. I've recently noticed the phone making a notification sound I've previously not heard, kind of a high pitched two beat ping, but when I check there is nothing new in my notification drawer and nothing has been pushed to my phone. It's making me a little crazy! Anybody have a clue what this could be? As always, thanks for any assistance!

I'm guessing its an app you have installed. If you've installed any new apps, check them. Also, check "my apps" in the play store to see what has been updated lately. Maybe one of your apps updated and defaulted a notification sound ON that was previously OFF and doesn't have notifications in the bar enabled. You may have to go through a bunch of apps to figure out which one it is since individual apps control their own notification settings.

I have a Galaxy Nexus and I have a random ping going off that sounds like the same one. No actual notifications are attached. I associate this sound with a (frankly terrible) game called Marvel: War of Heroes from Mobage. I believe it is the notification sound for all their games. The problem is, I deleted the game. I deleted any games I had from Mobage. I deleted every scrap of remaining Mobage-related data I could find on my phone. And it's still doing it. Contacting the company gets you handed off to the game developer, who tell you it's the company's fault. I'm just wondering how to hunt down the sound file and delete it. I searched my phone's HD for mp3s and oggs while connected to my computer (Not rooted), but couldn't find it. I'm at my wits' end. I don't want to reset to factory settings just to get rid of this noise, but I'm not sure what else to do, at this point.
