gobble gobble gobble

As we age, it seems the holidays get both more complicated and difficult. The simple pleasures of youthful enjoyment are overlain with personal issues, familial discord and, inevitably, the holes around the table left by loved ones no longer with us.

Our challenge is to remember the main themes underlying the holidays and put aside any personal issues, focusing on the relationships that brought us together in the first place, and to be grateful for the many good things in our lives, including the importance of others who have influenced us, regardless whether they are still with us.

My prayer for you all is that you may be able to set aside or avoid any and all landmines around your get-togethers and have an enjoyable food coma. :)

still cooking. it is only 5-6 people showing up and each are bringing something. i am making this mashed potato/spinach pie thing, sweet potato gratin, and some green beans along with the turkey. the turkey i am doing two ways. i cut the bird in half and one is getting roasted. while the other is going to be grilled.....its going to be a feast!!!!!!

i forgot to make the stuffiing. i'll do that for the leftovers tomorrow.

We have finished dinner proper at my sister's house and are preparing to attack dessert. We got off easy, mashed potatoes (I'm pretty good at those), a pumpkin pie and a bottle of wine. My niece made a vegan sweet potato pie with blueberry compote, which looks better than it sounds.
Im actually ready for a nap, though. ;)
 
My daughter and crew had another party to attend so we ate early and they were gone by three thirty. I was so miserable that I jumped on the bike and rode 21 miles in an attempt to make room for my dessert. Daughter in California with her in-laws and all of the family on that side and my son at his oldest daughter's and their four kids and the daughter and her two kids that shared dinner with us have been posting video clips of all the fun family stuff going down in a group text. The blessing of being the senior member of my family and extended family is paying dividends. Between kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, there is a lot of love and fun being shared this Thanksgiving.
