Root Going to root....

Yeah don't touch Talk

yeah dont touch any gaps at all....which of course is strange as you can take them out any other android phone...its almost like google said "hey you can bing the device up, but don't you dare touch whats left of google "

Bob-o I know you originally said that you didn't want to run custom kernels and such, but if you want better battery life one thing you could do is run a low voltage (LV) standard clocked (1Ghz) kernel like Dirrk's D02 LV 1000 kernel in this thread. Just food for thought if you're chasing better battery life. If not, there are many other things you can do to have better battery life such as not having your accounts (Facebook, Gmail, etc.) on the phone auto-sync, setting the screen to auto-brightness, and so on.

I tried what mazeraski said and got a better battery life already. Took phone off charger at 5am and still got 76% left. I have been on a lot today! Sitting in a tree hunting so I got bored. lol yes I hunt. I have noticed since rooting that I have a notable lag now?

there should be no direct correspondence to root=lag. rooting in and of itself changes nothing other than allowing superuser access to the phone. having you added any apps/changed any settings recently? thats probably what accounts for it.

also if you are running the stock kernel, its a shock if you DONT have lag at all

I'm assuming you tried the latter part of my suggestions? Like nitsuj said, if you are running the stock kernel then there is bound to be some lag. That's part of the reason I suggested trying a different kernel in my previous statement (aside from better battery life), but I know that originally you said you didn't want to. If you are on the stock kernel you could try running a different launcher like ADW or LauncherPro. YMMV but sometimes that might help make it feel a little smoother.

good call. adw or lpp alone (with transititions set up higher) will make your phone feel so much faster throughout the homescreens/launcher. :D

If I root can I keep Touch Whiz? I like the fact that the screen and apps both scroll horizontally unlike LP vertical app scroll. I like Buddies Now, Daily Briefing and the Facebook widget and don't want to give up any of that. Other than removing bloat, I am not sure I need to root since I like the stock phone so much.

Of course you can keep touchwiz if you root

yup, the problem is the opposite usually...most of us want to get rid of touchwiz completely, but its so intrusive to our systems you cant atm. you can replace it with adw or lpp in system/app (follows saps guide in here somewhere) but its like a virus that pervades throughout.

on other phones you can freeze/delete the oem skins once you root, but with us that ll just give you fc problems.

Ok...crap! lol I can't get apps to update from the market...what do I need to defrost?

You don't need autokiller at all. You don't need any killer. Some will disagree with this so feel free to use Google or read the SDK and learn a little something about the OS and how it does memory management.

I say its better to buy an extended battery or some chargers and keep them in convenient places (work, car) than mess with how the OS works, which could cause more problems than they fix if used wrong.

But that's just me other disagree.

im all for autokiller, but just dont use it on very high settings...moderate works for batt life for me, but extreme will hurt battery life big time.

I have autokiller (currently set to moderate). I think perhaps after testing it for a while I might uninstall to see if there is a major difference.

good call. i think everyones usage dictates how effective it is. for me im in and out of a bunch apps that i wont use again in the day, so its helpful to have some of them killed off.

I am apparently fat, dumb, and happy. Can someone explain to me why TW is so bad? I like the stock SF so much better than my D1 stock (and with LP). What is it that I am missing that everyone else sees? I would like to get rid of all the crapware given that the memory is so small on the phone so I may root for that purpose.

touchwiz, in and of itself as just a oem skin like blur or sense, isnt THAT awful imo. the problem is that samsung has made it like a parasite that has its claws in every aspect of the system.

for example. *most* android phones just have a framework-res that controls all themed aspects of the phone. samsung has framework-res AND twframework-res which is a headache.

tw cant be killed easily either.. it controls literally everything....on a sense phone for example you can install adw...freeze/delete sense with little to no issue....here you can *replace* tw but you loose sync functionality...and you cant straight delete it like another skin.

a great deal of the issues the devs have (amongst crappy code) is that tw is a virus that fights for its survival and will take functionality with it when you want it gone.

Same here, thus why I use it right now.

Very well put. It sort of sucks that it is this way, but there are some ways around it (eg. - saps method he found)

yup, that does help. :D just remember if facebook/twitter sync is important to you, that method will break it for you.

Yeah I know, but as of right now I really don't see the need to do that method. I have had Geeknik's kernel since yesterday and everything that TW slowed down (including the long-press opening of shortcuts for apps) is instant now. This kernel is quite awesome thus far :D

yeah its been pretty great on battery use as well for me. hopefully we do see a 1200 mhz version...i got an itching for some oc :D

Ok, so I have rooted and used the one click lag fix app from the market. I am getting 2085 quadrant score. What good is this? I still lag when I type! Maybe I can outtype my phone, I dunno? Also, I used Saps guide to remove TW. Will those mess anything up? Also, when 2.2 comes out and they streamline it, and make it a rom, how do I load it? And while im at it, I think the stupidfast kernell is for me! lol I know I said I didnt wanna do all that, but man this phone keeps blowing my mind! Is the one click lag fix a good app? Thanks in advance.

Bob

Congrats on reaching 1000 nitsuj....I just reached 100 last night, I have a ways to go haha :)

Yeah an OC version would be nice, but I'd like to see LV as well. I'm a battery-saving kind of guy in addition to wanting OC :D

Sorry Bob-o, I didn't see your last post apparently. Many people didn't see a benefit from the one click lag fix for this phone. From what I understand it really didn't do anything to fix it, thus why you would still have lag. As far as saps' guide on TW, the only thing people discovered is if you sync with FB it will stop this process. Doing this doesn't actually remove TW per say but makes so it doesn't run in the background. The 2.2 ROM question: I believe (though I'm not completely sure) that you will either have to load it using ROM Manager or flash it in Clockwork when it eventually comes out. Like I said though, I'm not exactly sure. If you want to run Geeknik's StupidFast kernel, I would advise getting rid of OCLF first. The thread is here for the SF kernel at xda. Hopefully that helps.

Can I load stupidfast through rom manager? I removed one click lag fix. Do I need to remove the ext2 thingy as well? When froyo comes out, do I have to reload stupidfast? Im confused a bit now that im rooted....nitsuj where are you? lol
