Gonna hold out due to activation/problems/ random reeboting. What do you think?

after reading the thread on random rebooting and activation problems i think am gonna hold out on this phone at least until the VM branded ones get sold. i read forums all the time how flashing a phone to a different network or something like that results in errors. i also read about erros when sending text messages, this is a deterrent to me until some more reviews hit. i just feel that the phones made straight from the factory flashed with the correct firmware from the get go will be better. My lg esteem on metro constantly reboots now and that's why i hate it. what do you guys think ? am i being a scaredy cat ? all opinions welcome!

I've had mine for over 24 hours without a single reboot, activation ran into some issues. Everything was resolved in less than 30 minutes. I think that the only thing different between the phones will be the silk screening.

Silk screening is what puts the logos on the phone, whether its htc, sprint, vm, whatever. And yes, you are being a scaredy cat. Jump in, the water's fine. Not sure why anyone thinks the vm version will be any better.

I'd say get it when you can. It's gonna be hard to find one for a while anyway. That being said I don't think that a one time activation would be a deal breaker

Everyone has their own opinion so you have to decide for yourself. If you're waiting because you read bad things, I would say no way and go for it. Every phone has small hiccups, the activation is not a huge problem and I have had no problems with mine at all.

If you're holding out for the price to drop, then that's something different and might be worth waiting for if you don't mind but again, the decision is up to you.

A lot of reliable news sites reported that iPhone is coming to VM USA on July 1st.

So now a lot of people will be skipping HTC EVO V purchase to buy iPhone. Possibly 4S.

People will be able to retain their USD 25 per month 3G plan with iPhone.

:D

My wife got hers on Saturday 6/2 @ about 4PM and we had a little trouble activating it probably because it was the weekend right when VM customer service was going home for the night. By Sunday morning, after one more call to VM customer service, the phone was working fine. Also, she has had no, NOT ONE, random reboot since it was activated. As a matter of fact, this thing is running fantastic!

Although the decision is ultimately yours, I would say go for it.

I've had zero problems with the phone. This thing runs flawlessly. I don't understand the problem with activation. Follow directions and it works perfectly.

Sprint is probably doing this to cover the mega contract with Apple, I guarantee that an off contract Iphone 4s will cost you a minimum of $500. Not really the same demographic. And no as was previously posted you will not be able to retain your grandfathered plan.

They will be required to use the current beyond talk plans. All new phones (Released after May 27th) will require you leave your grandfathered plans.

I'm hearing we will get both the 4 and 4s models.

My activation went fine. The random reboots were simply caused by an overly sensitive power button and a too tight silicon case.
Resource error fixed by updating PRL.

Overall, It's been worth the little stuff. This phone is positively amazing.

it seems like a lot of the activation issues my be cause by switching on wifi before activating because it happened to me but luckily i realized this and all is well
i think virgin needs phones to connect to it's 3g network for activation
if this is correct they should put it in the freaking manual or make a sticker stating it or something.... may save a lot of frustration and returns no?

I will go for the Evo rather than the iphone. I have already own an ipod touch, so there's no point for me to getting it. Other than that, I love how android has a lot of customize option out there, and for the spec evo seems a winner to me. If you are thinking to get an evo, go for it. You can always return within 30 days.

If you have the patience, give it a couple of weeks. I didn't and now I'm stuck with a phone that has NO data which is the reason I went with VM and this phone. VM has been working on getting my data back for three days now. Let them work out the kinks I say.

people need to realize. if you see 10 threads about problems activating, and 10 threads about some other issues, there is probably 500,000 people with absolutely zero issues. did you want every person who buys the phone to make a thread titled

"hey guys, got my phone, everything went fine"

half of the problems are typically user error anyway. most of the activation issues seem to stem from changing from the 25 to 35 dollar plan while activating, and even then, it is resolved with a 15 min call to vm tech support. if people were making threads based on actual technical issues with the phone... like...

my phones touch screen is jittery and has issues with multitouch
my phones camera leaves a green blob in the middle of pictures
my back cover refuses to stay on
my phone makes a creaking noise when i hold it
my phone has dust under the screen 2 days after purchase
my phone has slow 3g speeds and bad reception
my phone is piece of shit

etc etc etc, and since these arent really subject to human error, and they arent really isolated incidents, id be wary buying a phone based on those kinds of threads. most of those things are probably on every triumph lol. so for me, upgrading from triumph to this is a no brainer, and no way in hell am i waiting. last night the previous order i made on the 31st finally stopped pending in my bank, and i was able to take advantage of the second day free shipping rs offered me to make up for the canceled order.

IPhones are 3G only.

Yep. Cricket people are swearing it'll be LTE ready by the end of June too.

If they could of made it LTE, Don't you think the postpaid carriers would have it with LTE service already? =3

LOL!

I don't really feel that iPhones are worth all the hype around them. In my honest opinion (Hope I don't offend anyone, Forgive me I do), I feel that the iPhone is a smartphone that was made for less than intelligent people. >_> <_<

P.S I Love this Evo. ^^. I just found the built in screen shot ability that's on ICS. Exciting!
