Good phone for new smartphone user?

Thinking of getting this phone for my wife. She currently has an ENVY3, and must have a good hardware keyboard. 4G isn't the most important, but the Droid3's keyboard still sucks and the LG whatever is hopelessly out of date. Is this really the best bet on Verizon right now? I don't know of anything coming out anytime soon, maybe there will be some deals for the holidays though?

I own the LG "whatever" you're referring to (it's the Ally), and it is a bit dated, but prior to the Stratosphere, it had hands down the best keyboard of any of Verizon's smartphones. IMO-the Stratosphere will be a good device for pretty much anybody-especially a new user. It's fast enough stock to be lag free, and has enough RAM to function well, with plenty of storage onboard. The keyboard being very nice, and the speed of 4G is just the icing on the cake.
The one concern you'll have to deal with is the far faster battery useage rate of smartphones vs phones like her old Env3. It'll take some getting used to on her part.

Actually the ally is discontinued and they have another LG for cheap with slightly better specs. Unfortunately the keyboard is very strange with the space bar in the middle of the bottom row, I'm not sure she would like it. Samsung seems to make a few good phones and some bad ones, I'm really hoping this is one of the good ones.

Huh, They slipped that in on me. The Enlighten. I missed the keyboard on that one awhile back when I was looking the new devices over.

I must bring up, the Motorola Devour (now long since discontinued) had a pretty good keyboard, but everything else about it sucked. Bad.

The Stratosphere is basically an Epic 4G for Verizon's network from what I can see, and there are many very happy owners of that device out there.

FYI we picked up this phone at Costco for $30 with a car charger, leather pouch and screen protectors. It is a very nice phone, the keyboard is much nicer than the Droid 3 and the screen even more so. Defiantly a nice solid phone, 4G is nice too.

Looking for a good case and screen protector. Bought a couple off Amazon, the case is OK, but a bit plasticy, the screen protectors were worthless. Anyone have the body glove case?

My Mom just went from an ENVY to the Samsung Stratosphere. She felt like she needed the physical keyboard so that narrowed the selections. She has had the phone for almost a week and really likes it so far. It has been very easy for her to learn and she is amazed at everything that is now at her fingertips. She did not think she needed a smart phone but once she started using it she realized everything they have to offer. She has also commented on how easy the virtual keyboard is to use on this device. We did just realize there are no LED notification lights but based on another post are going to try the "noLED' app to solve that.

go with the stratosphere its a really good phone and the best with a keyboard (i think) i was a epic user at one point and i gotta say that was my favorite phone, i didnt rly care for the droid phones
