Root Goodbye TouchWiz

Odd issues with Root Explorer trying to complete this...I know it worked once upon a time. Now I'm getting paste failures trying to copy LP's .apk file. :(

HAAAAAAAAAAAALP!

You probably just need to hit the little tab at the tap which says Mount R/W

I wish it was that easy....Root Explorer shows it as being mounted R/W and only gives an option to mount R/O which doesn't work. :(
Hmmm, truly bizarre. So when you copy the apk from data/app and then try to paste in system/app you are already in R/W and toogling off and on does not work huh

yup, that's about it. There's only one more piece to the puzzle that might be relevant. I had an older .apk for Root Explorer that for some reason won't update. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. At this point, I might remove it and do a fresh install from the marketplace unless you guys have another root filemanager that you recommend?

No I still like RE although I do know it got updated fairly recently. Probably wont hurt to uninstall and re-install the current version either. I wish I could give you a better answer but your problem is not one I can replicate :(

I grabbed a different file manager and it seemed to resolve the issue. weird!
Hey whatever works I guess, I still love RE, then again mine actually works correctly ;)
BTW what other file manager did you go with? ES?

doesnt for me :)

are you on dj05? airplane mode has been weird for many at times with certain setups

DI01 - tried removing TW again to see if it was a fluke, but I still got an acore FC on the first time enabling airplane mode post-boot, and intermittently after that. So I suppose I should say it doesn't "stop" working, it just works intermittently with FCes ;)

If you root your phone, does TWZ go away? Or is it always there no matter what you install or change? I've been reading on how to root and seem to get most of it but I haven't found anywhere that actually states what it does when you root to the factory installed software or ROM?
Am I just having a blond moment or what?

just rooting the phone does nothing to change your system...other than allowing you access to programs/files that you otherwise could not.

it won't remove or change anything else, unless you manually do it yourself.

to remove touchwiz, you have to follow the steps outlined in the op of this thread. it requires either use of a terminal or root explorer (root explorer being the easiest way of course)

Or es file explorer ;)

The issue I'm talking about is the acore fc that occurs when fb syncs contacts. I have mine set to once a day but have been syncing manually since I disabled tw bc the fc was annoying.

This is was worked for me:
enable tw again in root explorer
Use home switcher to switch back to tw. No need to set as default
sync ur fb contacts and birthdays once
EDIT: cripple TW again in root manager
switch back to LP and set as default.
Acore fc should not happen anymore.

Then what was point of removing tw in the first place because you brought it back? And having tw under lp causes lag. Tw and lp don't play well together..

"Super Manager" I hope one day to figure out why Root Explorer stopped working as I preferred it. :(

Thanks. Edited to reflect that I left a step out. Crippling TW again after a successful sync.

Seems like you have to sync with TW once.

Just a word of advice, once you remove or rename the Touchwiz APK file DO NOT install or flash the puzzle piece lock screen after using a 3rd party ROM, then select the "Glass unlock" as the unlock screen. Did this to my sis' phone and it would lock up after every restart, effectively bricking it. Had to reflash a superclean ROM by booting into Clockwork. I'm guessing the puzzle piece is integrated with Touchwiz somehow?

Otherwise, thanks for the info! Very happy to get more bloat off the phone
