Google 3.1 Roll Out for XOOM

your post to me indicated you needed enlightenment on the wifi icon. thats how i read it. what is your meaning here?

. The thing I do notice is that the little wifi indicator now seem to have become animated (maybe with up/down arrow?). If anyone has info on this I'd appreciate a pointer or enlightenment.

Right and the part you left out is that I said everything was working (twice no less) yet your response was as though I was saying it was broken.....

The animated wifi is apparently new in 3.1 that was my point and I wanted confirmation of that, maybe a link or release notes or something. Please read what I post if you are going to respond to it.

After googling around a bit some mention here: Honeycomb 3.1 New Features and Experience - Page 6

you must make sure the cable is a OTG style cable. this is the only way to get the xoom to talk to other gadgets...

Can you link to the cable you used? Do they make a real short cable of this? - like maybe 6 - 12 inches?

Can you plug a thumb drive into these cables? I seem to be hearing mixed news around this and am not sure of the answer.

there are a few on fleabay. i purchased the oem moto connection kit. its a stubby lil' sucker--couple inches. to some its pricey @ 20 bux however it was 14 for me w/ my vzw discount. amazon has it on their site and moto and/or vzw now show it.

thumb drives--yeah ive seen others have it connected. i have a thumb drive, however it was not recognized. im stock unrooted.

Why is there no manual option like with the phone updates?

I would say it's because the firmware for the non-CDMA 3G is simply not finished/available. Manually upgrading to the 3.1 firmware that's available in the US would likely kill your 3G at best, and brick your Xoom at worst.

Mine is the wifi model, I see your point though.

Any news from Spain?

I have a wifi model but because i am currently in Gibraltar i dont even get half of the market apps!! very annoying. However when i go into Spain (pretty much every other day) i do get the apps i want (phew!!). Is there anyway to change the country manually or to change it on my wifi network?

If people are getting the update in Spain though (for wifi model i mean) then i know i should be able to get it too. I checked this saturday whilst in spain though but got nothing..

by the way, i bought the tab in the UK.

Im still waiting...:((

Im in ontario, canada

Got my system today

Do I have to do anything or will it notify me?

And where?

it should just notify you, however if you go into settings/about/system update you can basically trigger it to check for you.

However bear in mind that does not always seem to work, and people have reported that the best thing to do is change your date to the future, restart the xoom and then go into system update.

I've been doing that every other day but im getting nothing yet. This is so annoying, i went through this with my HTC hero, then my HTC Desire HD and now this.

Pretty much does what is says on the tin; I'm wanting to buy a Motorola Xoom, but one of the things I need from it is usb connectivity to an external hard drive, which I hear is coming with Android 3.1.

Does anyone know when this is available in the UK? I know it's out in the US now, but I've been furiously googling to try and find out when it's hitting the UK.

Help please fine gents and ladies of the android forums?

It seems that Japan is getting the 3.1 update first (now) and the rest of us Non-American Xoom owners will get it it over the next couple of weeks. This update includes SD support where the American 3.1 update does not.

My understanding is that all non-american Xoom's are not classed as GED's (Google Experience Devices) and as such will not get the updates first from Google. The 3.1 update we are getting is coming from Motorola rather than directly from Google that is why we will get SD card support with the update and the Americans did not. There is a concern that because this update is coming directly from Motorola that they will fill it with bloatware etc but that has not been confirmed.

You may ask how i know this.....well i have been reading this rather long thread below which details all of this.

Hope this has helped.

Cheers

PS

I am in the UK and have a 3G Xoom from CPW on Talkmobile (Vodafone)

I don't like the way this development is going. While I am a Canadian and happy to receive this new version with the SD support, I am concerned about 2 diverging development streams for the same device. We should have more power over Moto's development strategy as a single user community. A divided community may start pushing in different directions.

It does seem a bit of a mess, as you can tell from the link i posted a lot of UK customers are not happy and returning their Xoom's. Though you tend to find the unhappy ones post the most

I have listed my Xoom and accessories up for sale. Hopefully I find a buyer and I plan on going with the new Toshiba.

in uk..xoom 3g...changed the date to a future date & tried doing the system update but no luck...:(

I have had my 3g xoom for a week now Its still showing as 3.0.1. I am in UK. My brother got a wifi one three weeks ago and he checked yesterday and his is 3.1

I am confused over the updates. Settings say I am uptodate with latest version.
