You need to install Google apps seperately. Flash right after the Rom.

I like this version, its a little more comprehensive. You can go more bare bones if you want the minimum.

How do I install in recovery? I know how to flash a rom but not apps, could anyone give me steps. Or do I just hit flash zip from sd?

Yep install from SD just like a Rom.

You can also create backups with Titanium backup for future reference.
