Google Assistant | Not invoking on new phone when screen is off

Got a new phone noticed that the Assistant is not invoking when the screen is off.

Still working fine on the old note 8 cracked screen.

Tried almost everything mentioned over the internet but had no luck.

Any ideas?

So assistant is working fine per se as long as phone is unlocked or even if locked while screen is on.

As soon as screen is off .. assistant doesn't respond to hey google.

Hope this helps

like screen timeout
So at the approach screen then, that is normal. :) There is no need to get all in a frenzy for google assisstance anyways, you can always come back with it, to it, but if you want to have less screen time > Settings > Display > Screen time out, up to around thirty of Earth minutes.

is the phone up to date?

the other thing i can think of is try and flash a firmware update. you will not loose your data. but it is an involved process. basically you need to install odin and go to https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ to get the firmware. you will need to enable usb debugging and use odin to flash the firmware.

not sure how important using google assistant while the screen is off is to you.

There are a couple of setting I can think of to check. Open the Google app on your phone and then tap on your account in the upper right corner and open settings.

Under Voice > Voice Match check to see if the option is checked for "Access your Assistant any time you say "Hey Google", even if your screen is off..."

Under Google Assistant > Lock Screen make sure you are opted in to "Get hands-free help from your Assistant when your phone is locked."

already tried those .. no luck..

Buying new phone. Google Fi is my carrier. I want something that responds to "Hey Google" even
when the screen is dark. In other works, when the phone is locked. It's a key feature. Important
for hands-free use.
Any recommendations?
I don't care about security. I always disable it. No PIN. No fingerprint. None of that.
My old Moto X4 worked great for 3+ years. Running Android 9. Google Assistant always responds
to Hey Google when the phone is powered on. Regardless of whether the screen is dark.
I bought a new Moto G Power off the Fi website. It no longer supports this important feature. Crazy.
I verified this deficiency with Motorola customer support. The google Fi support people were
no help. They think Hey google works on all the phones they offer.
So now I'm looking at maybe a Pixel 6a? Or maybe a Samsung A13? or Samsung A53?
But I want to know in advance if the phone supports Hey Google when dark. Else I'll have to
return it, like I did the Moto G Power.

I've had the pixel 2,3 & 5 and can confirm that hey Google works on a locked phone. You just have to go into the settings and enable that feature.
