Help Google Calendar Won't sync

I have a google calendar associated with my google account and would like to sync it to my Google Nexus phone. The same google account has been added to my phone. But I don't have an option to sync calendar on my google account. I can sync browser, contacts, gmail and google photos but not calendar. How do I fix this?

Add Calendar

If it's there, your carrier or a google location block is possibly in effect for being in an area/country that doesn't allow.

If it's not there... well... um... maybe... um...try...um...adding...it.

Thanks but no luck.
From Apps -> Calendar, there is no 'Settings' option.
In the Calendar app itself, I can click the settings button then select Settings. Then i can select 'Calendars to Display'. I then only see my exchange userid (my exchange calendar from work is synced correctly).

I've also tried installing Business Calendars but this doesn't show the Google calendar also.

I can click on the 'Calendars to sync' button but I get no option.
I'm with Telstra (Australia) and there is no way they are blocking this.

The big problem seems to be that I don't even get an option to sync calendars on my google account (under Settings -> Accounts & sync.

BTW - I am an IT professional, so this is not a general technical literacy issue.

Does your google account show up under Accounts & sync? Have you tried pressing on your google account listed there. This will bring up a list of things under that google account you can check/uncheck to sync, which will include calendars. Although not specific calendars.

Have you rooted your phone and installed a different rom?

I had a similar issue, prior Android phone, and it involved my having set up the Google calender after I linked the phone to the account. I had to do a reset of the phone, then add the account, and the calendar was there. Your post did not indicate the sequence, so this might be an answer.

Thanks - I'm happy to try that. But what do you mean by reset of the phone? Are you just referring to deleting the account and re-adding it?

Hi runamok. Believe it or not, calendars do not show up under my google account. this is the weird thing about my situation. I have a google account set up on my phone, I have created calendars, but they don't show. I'll try jim's suggestion of creating the accounts again and see how this goes.

Hi jim256,
I've looked at what a reset is and that seems like strong action to take to fix something that shouldn't really occur.

But deleting and re-adding my google account worked fine. Shouldn't have been necessary but since it's all in the cloud it was easy to do.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Glad the account delete/add worked for you. When I was working on it the phone was brand new, no apps, etc., so the factory reset was not a big issue. Afterwards, it would be, but google does restore a good bit of your info automatically if you have their backup turned on, and DropBox helps with the rest if you ever get into that situation.

Hey guys, had the same situation with the calendar not syncing. Did the same as brownbag and it worked for me as well. Thanks for the advice!

I have the same problem. I have a tablet with 4.0. I have set up the google account, and Calendar is never an option. I have deleted, and re-added the account several times, but calendar is never listed as an option.

The tablet is rooted (came that way).

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have google calendars linked to my android Infuse running 2.1, also rooted, with no problems.

When I open the Calendar app on my tablet with 4.0, it lists my google email address, but there are no calendars listed, and there seems no way to populate it with a calendar.....

ideas....anyone? I tried the suggestions listed on another site. I can't post a link as of yet, but it had to do with modifying the settings in google dashboard, but the interface isn't the same, and I can't seem to find the settings they're recommending.

Are you sure calendar sync is enabled under the main settings of the tablet (accounts & sync)?

Tim.

thanks, but when I go to the accounts & sync, and select google, or when I add a google account it only lists email and contacts as options, and not calendar. I even tried adding a different google account, but get the same results.

Thanks

Is this perhaps a "business" google account? If so they may have different settings/options.

No....not a business google account. Don't know what else to do. I have been avoiding a full reset, but maybe that is my next step....and then perhaps a new rom.... Now, I am out of my depth.

Is "Calendar" installed and listed as an app?

Is it a Touchpad or something else? If its a touchpad you can re-install the google apps seperately. Is it running a custom ROM? Custom ROMS often do not include the google apps like calendar, play store, etc.

Tim,

First off, I appreciate your continued help.

It is a touch pad. I don't know if the rom is a custom rom or not. It is one of those chinese pads, running 4.0.

Model: TF101 (WOW pad)
Kernel version: 3.0.8+ Jackie@ubuntu#12

Don't if the Kernel relates to the rom or not. I didn't think it was rooted until I downloaded RootChecker, and it says that it is, and I am able to access system files.

Funny when I added my google accounts, that it only gave options for email and contacts. When I do the same on my android phone (Impulse 4g running 2.1, rooted, no custom rom) it lists picasa and calander.

On my tablet, when I look at the app list, the calendar app is in the list.

Thanks

If you open the calendar app does it work?

Under settings In the calendar app what do you see? Is your gmail acct listed? Is there an add account button in the upper right or anywhere? Can you ad an account?

Yes, I can open the calendar and it seems to work. In settings, my gmail acct is listed, and there is an add account button in the upper right corner. If I try to add an account, it wants a server type list of settings. It seems that this is only for syncing an exchange account.

If I delete my google account, and then open the calendar, it goes through the process of adding a new account, but calendars still aren't listed for sync.

I've tried everything other than hard reset. My main calendar works fine, and even one other calendar I created. But the "Tasks" calendar that Google Calendar creates for Google Tasks with a deadline just will not show up for syncing. I've tried disabling the app, the separate "Calendar Storage" app, forcing it to repopulate and resynce. But no-go. It will not see it.

Tasks is not a syncable calendar. Unfortunately, its not actually stored as a calendar even though it displays like it is through the browser. Its one of the few weaknesses I have found with Google Calendar. Its my #1 wishlist item in fact. Also, at least as of last year, any calendars that you "add" through the find more calendar option in the browser (like sports team schedules) are also not syncable.

Good to know, thanks. I use any.do, and you can manually sync it to Google Tasks, so for long term things it's good for that.

Mostly I use tasks for long term things, not short term work-related things.
