Help Google Contacts.. Phone -> Gmail

It seems when I am making a change to a contact on my phone (that came from Google contacts), it isn't updated when I got back into gmail..

Is this supposed to work? 99% of the time I will be entering new contacts on my phone, so it seems weird they wouldn't sync in that direction too.

You may have to force a sync from the phone.

speak of the devil! it just showed up.. gmail must not be pulling contacts real-time.

It takes some time. The same is true for calendar entries. You can add one on your phone and it will sync back to your online calendar and vice versa.

The contacts on my phone are not the same as the contacts on my google contacts. I just spent hours linking, merging etc all the contacts that were on my phone w/ facebook contacts, etc. Now, I can't get the contacts from my phone to google contact! Help!!!

I have had no luck adding someone to my phone and having it transfer up to gmail. Even with a manual sync.
I can add someone to google contacts, make changes on the phone and have those changes replicate but if I create a contact from scratch on the phone it doesn't seem to get transferred up.
Do you know how long something like this should take?

when you create them, set type to "Google" instead of "Phone"

when you create the contact did you select Google in the drop down box? If not you are just adding it to the phone list

Reviving this thread, because this question hasn't been answered.

Is there some way to make Google the default contact type instead? I hate dropping down that menu, and sometimes I forget.
