Google I/O 2013

The S4 GE "updates will come direct from Google as soon as they are available."

So is that Google supporting a device with a microSD slot?

It does raise an interesting point. I guess since it technically isn't a Nexus device and is still a Samsung device. It still is a Samsung Galaxy S4, not a Google Galaxy S4. ;)

I also wonder if it will be supported with factory images right on the Google Developer website.

Good call on that, yeah that's another benefit.

The other wow moment was the Racer demo! Awesome.

I watched the majority of the keynote on my nexus 7 during my free period. I didn't see anything about android, so can anyone inform me on the major changes in 4.3?

I'm disappointed that they didn't truly unify messaging. I mean, come on, even crappy FB Home found a way to make the stock messaging app and FB Messenger coexist in one unified messaging experience. Come on Google!

Also, kind of disappointed that the Hardware announced wasn't Nexus or XPhone related. Instead, the weird GS4GE. Not sure what to make of that right now.

Everything else they talked about was awesome. I'm over not having 4.3/5.0 right now. 4.2.2 is amazing on both my N4 and N7. Especially as a custom ROM.

I still love Android no matter what.

I kept falling asleep during it. :o
Honestly thought it was a little boring. Hey, I'm not a developer. I can appreciate the new Maps and Messaging but Music and Games are nothing I'm fond of. If the selection is as good as Rhapsody, we may look into it since it's a little cheaper.
The S4GE is bizarre though. When I saw that rumor a couple days ago, thought it was really out there, never going to happen.
TBO, I guess I'm just happy with my Gnex after all this time. Awaiting our contract to be up before we reevaluate our options for phones AND carrier. Either way, as long as my new phone is rootable and has a strong dev community, I'm not sure I care if it's a Nexus.

They did say that it would take a little time for everything to fall into place.

Really, I am using the new Music app right now, I love it. It's much better than Pandora in my opinion, and they have a better selection and recommendations than Pandora. It's like they know what songs I like. Gaming on Android is something that's really great, will be getting a controller soon to play some of the intense games.

Other things with Google Plus and maps, I think they are great. I use Google Plus all the time, but am not a big maps user. The best part about the keynote, in my opinion was at the end when Larry Page got to speak. We missed him last year, so I'm really happy that I got to hear him speak this year.

No 4.3, sorry.

That's a little saddening, but I'm sure it's coming soon.

I was disappointed at the lack of Nexus updates. I'm in the market to replace my Acer A500 and was hoping there would be some new hardware in the Nexus line that I could jump on.

Otherwise, some VERY cool things coming, including the Play Services stuff that works on (and will or has pushed to) devices running FROYO and newer.

I know how you feel. Hole off a little bit longer, I'm sure Google has plans for a new Nexus tablet. I'm looking to get a new one, so I can give my old one to my dad.

I probably had more fun watching last year's event. Aside from Google Games, there wasn't much that interested me this time. I'm also hearing Google is leaning toward proprietary services which I'm not very thrilled about, though since Games is cross-platform I guess it's safe.

I was happy about the tidbit at the end that said they were finally going to bring GoogleTV up to date. It's been stuck on 3.2 Honeycomb (*shutters*) for so long that it's about time. Though I have to wonder which devices are going to get the update.

My sister wants to get Google TV.
