Help Google Latitude update frequency

I got this enabled out of interest, and I was wondering if there is anywhere you can specify how often the phone updates its position, as this seems to be having an impact on battery life and data usage.

If it cannot be specified then I think I'll just turn it off altogether.

I've never found a way of adjusting it, and when I tested on vs off noticed a major difference in battery drain. Needless to say I've remained "signed out" unless I specifically need to use it!

I'm just having a dabble with what it can do. Be interesting as I'm going on holiday (not abroad) and interested in seeing what it comes up with regarding my movements.

It seems like it updates about once every hour as long as you are stationary.
The faster you are travelling, the more it updates your position with the server.

I'm curious as to how much of a hit on my data allowance this will have per update.

i never wanted it to automatically update my location, so i had it set on Update location manually. but it still seems like it wakes up my phone a lot.. always present in my battery usage etc. so i have signed out of it too. anytime i want to check in, i just 'join latitude' and it takes an extra 5 seconds, while saving a ton of battery..
